One of the most iconic views in Chiricahua National Monument is Cochise Head! Can you see how it got its name?

This huge rock formation is visible from Massai Point, as well as the final two miles of Bonita Canyon Drive. It appears to be the profile of someone's face who is lying down on their back. Note the long, curved nose and a domed forehead. There is even a 100-foot Douglas fir tree where an eyelash would be!

This historic figure represented is said to be Cochise, the famous chief of the Chiricahua Apache. There is no trail to Cochise Head.
