Fort Jones Fire Department is excited to announce the award of a regional FEMA Grant totaling over $366,000 for the purchase of new Structural Firefighting Hose, Nozzles and Appliances: as well as NFPA compliant Thermal Imaging Cameras and Multi-Gas Detection Monitors

With a local match requirement of just 5%, the $366,666.61 in federal grant funds awarded under FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) program will provide for the replacement of almost all of the structural firefighting hose and nozzles in use by Etna Fire Department, Fort Jones Fire Department, and Scott Valley Fire Protection District as well as add NFPA compliant Thermal Cameras and Gas Monitors to every structural fire engine! The new equipment will allow our firefighters to respond to and mitigate fires and other hazards in our communities safely and effectively. Without the award of this grant, we would be unable to replace and add this vital equipment on this scale and would be forced to continue using our current equipment: some of which is nearing, or beyond, 50 years old and not in compliance with current standards.

This grant was a collaborative effort headed and written by Chief Hess of the Fort Jones Fire Department with assistance from staff at the City of Etna and Scott Valley Fire Protection District. The Fort Jones Fire Department is excited to perform these vital equipment updates and continue serving our community while also caring for the safety and wellbeing of our firefighters.

After 4 weeks assigned to both the Dillon (E-1315 assigned to ST 3201C doing structure protection on the Hwy 96 corridor) and Blue fire (E-1314 assigned to the Scott Valley Helibase) all Fort Jones Fire personnel have been released and are getting some much needed rest. The Fort Jones Fire Department is honored to be able to support our neighboring communities during these major incidents and we wouldn't be able to do it without our dedicated volunteers.
We are looking for more volunteers who live in or near Fort Jones to assist in answering calls to help, both here in our community and state wide to other communities in need. No experience needed, just a willingness to learn and help others!

The Fort Jones Fire Department currently has personnel and equipment assigned to mutilple incidents across Northen California. We have an engine and personnel assigned to crash rescue standby at the Scott Valley Helibase supporting the Marble Complex and the Orleans Complex and a Chief Officer assigned as a Taskforce Leader with an OES Taskforce assigned to the Green fire in Shasta County. With these assignments we remain staffed and ready to respond to local 911 calls with mutilple personnel at the station and volunteers on call. Thank you for doing your part to remain fire safe this summer!

Happy 4th of July from all of us at the Fort Jones Fire Department! 🇺🇸
As we celebrate our nation's independence, please remember to be fire safe— and follow these quick tips to keep your holiday running smoothly while using Safe and Sane fireworks:

Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby
Make sure the area is free from dead and dry vegetation
Light one firework at a time and back up quickly
Never point or throw fireworks at people or animals
Keep fireworks away from young children

Please note that only Safe and Sane marked fireworks are legal within the The Town of Fort Jones. All fireworks are illegal in unincorporated areas of the county and other municipalities have varying restrictions. Check with your jurisdiction prior to lighting.

Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy a fire-safe 4th! 🎇
