Today on Mother’s Day, we pray for all mothers: those who are expecting, grieving, or longing to adopt. We also pray for married couples who suffer infertility, that all may be strengthened in their vocation to love.

Today, we pray for all mothers, especially our departed mothers who now rest in the Lord's mercy, and for all who mourn them. We also remember those waiting for the gift of motherhood, whether through birth or adoption, and those carrying the cross of infertility. Through the prayers of the Mother of God, may the Risen Christ grant comfort, strength, and enduring hope to everyone.

Gary R. Studniewski, CH, COL, USA (Ret.), has been named an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Washington, DC, by His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV. Archbishop Broglio responded, “The news of Bishop-elect Studniewski fills me with joy. He was a fine military chaplain and has been an excellent pastor. I look forward to working with him in Region IV and promise him my prayerful support as he and Bishop-elect Robert Boxie prepare for episcopal ordination.”

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Gianna Beretta Molla, an Italian Catholic pediatrician who is the patron of mothers, physicians, and unborn children.

St. Gianna Beretta Molla was one of the last saints canonized by Pope St. John Paul II in 2004. Her life was a powerful example of Evangelium Vitae, the Gospel of Life, one of the most important encyclicals of his papacy. Her story continues to inspire hope.

St. Gianna gave her whole heart to serving others as a loving wife, caring mother, and compassionate doctor. She was always mindful of the needs of the elderly and the poor. When she became seriously ill during her last pregnancy, she bravely chose treatment that would protect her unborn child, placing her trust in prayer and in God.

On April 28, only a week after holding her healthy newborn daughter, St. Gianna passed away from complications after childbirth. Her life, filled with charity and loving service, ended with a selfless act that reflected Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.

Let us look to St. Gianna for inspiration as we stand up for the dignity of life and trust in God's guidance.

St. Gianna Beretta Molla, pray for us!

Christ is risen! Indeed, He is risen! Did you know that during the Easter season, instead of praying the Angelus, we actually pray the Regina Caeli, aka the Queen of Heaven prayer, in its place?

As we observed Holy Thursday this past week, we remembered the evening of the Last Supper, when Jesus gathered with His disciples to share the Bread and Wine—gifts that would become the very body and blood of Christ in the Eucharist; His profound gift of love and sacrifice. Our priests uniquely celebrate this gift.

The prayer of our Holy Father reflects the special relationship our priests share with our Blessed Lord, urging them to consider the gift of the priesthood with gratitude and renewed confidence in His call and sustaining grace, even amid difficulties.

We, too, should consider the gift of the priesthood with gratitude, for without priests, we would not have access to the Sacraments. May we always remember to pray for our priests.

In the life of the Church, priests are called to accompany, support and serve their communities. But they themselves can go through difficult moments in whic...
