We encourage everyone who lives, works or visits Fort Knox to please go to the READY ARMY WEBSITE http://www.acsim.army.mil/readyarmy/ or http://www.ready.gov/ to learn more about disaster preparedness and "BE INFORMED, MAKE A PLAN, BUILD A KIT and GET INVOLVED".
* BE INFORMED: Consider emergency situations that occur in our geographic area. Identify the challenges, limitations, and specific needs of each of your family members.
* MAKE A PLAN: Plan for emergency situations early.
* BUILD A KIT: Prepare for ALL-HAZARDS emergencies by assembling at least one emergency kit for your home with enough supplies to last 72-hours.
* GET INVOLVED: Installation and community leaders should identify volunteers prior to a disaster or emergency and provide training for their potential role when practical.
During the month of September you should conduct your drills such as FACILITY EVACUATION and SHELTER-IN-PLACE when possible. Practice individual and workplace preparedness plans to reinforce WHERE TO GO, WHAT TO DO, AND WHAT TO TAKE in the event of an emergency.
Rehearse school preparedness. Incorporate an emergency drill during a day of class. Post school emergency procedures electronically and encourage parents to review the material with their children.
Fort Knox Installation Protection Branch will discuss disaster preparedness on the 11th and 25th of September during the Newcomer briefings scheduled to be given at the Saber and Quill as well they will be present at the PX on August 30th to discuss preparedness with patrons. Additional presentations will be scheduled. Every week during the month we will post a detailed information paper on "BE INFORMED, MAKE A PLAN, BUILD A KIT and GET INVOLVED".
