May is Mental Health Awareness Month đź’š

Mental health matters every day, for every person, in every community. This month, let us choose compassion over judgment, healing over silence, and hope over stigma.

Too many people are carrying invisible burdens while smiling through pain. Whether you are navigating stress, grief, anxiety, trauma, or simply trying to hold life together. Please know this: You are not alone, and asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

As a community, we must continue creating safe spaces for honest conversations, access to care, emotional support, and healing opportunities for our families, youth, seniors, and neighbors.

Take time this month to:
đź’š Check on a friend
đź’š Prioritize rest and self-care
đź’š Speak kindly to yourself
đź’š Seek support when needed
đź’š Help end the stigma surrounding mental health

Together, we can build healthier minds, stronger families, and more compassionate communities.

Radical Generosity!

In celebration of Pastor Marcus Davidson and family’s 16th Pastoral Anniversary, NMOBC, MODCO and the CEA practiced radical generosity by hosting a beautiful Community Giveback that served 184 homeless brothers and sisters.

What a delight it was to share love in action by providing free clothing, 302 hygiene kits, 37 haircuts, 258 hot meals, fresh produce, 325 canned goods, 34 showers, fun games, health screenings, and an abundance of compassion.

We are grateful for the partnership of the Sickle Cell Association of Broward County, Westside Gazette, Broward Health, United Way, Rotary Community Corps, South Florida Hunger Coalition, and many other community-based organizations whose support helped made this day possible.

When we come together in unity, we do more than meet needs. We restore hope, affirm dignity, and embody the love of God in tangible ways.

This is radical generosity.

❤️ Your Heart Matters — Today and Every Day ❤️

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide — but the good news is that many heart conditions are preventable with awareness, early detection, and healthy lifestyle choices.

At Mount Olive Development Corporation (MODCO), we are committed to educating our community and empowering families to take charge of their heart health.

đź’š Know your numbers
đź’š Stay active
đź’š Eat heart-healthy foods
đź’š Manage stress & get enough rest
đź’š Schedule regular checkups

Together, we can build healthier hearts and stronger communities.

On this Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, New Mount Olive Baptist Church, Mount Olive Development Corporation, and Community Education Alliance were honored to partner with the Broward County Radiance Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. and Top Teens of America to lift up the spirit of service and extend out generosity.

Together, we honored our City of Fort Lauderdale first responders, the brave men and women who serve, protect, and sacrifice daily to keep our community safe. From faith to service, from leadership to legacy, this day reflected the very best of who we are when we come together in unity, compassion, and purpose. Thank you to every partner, volunteer, and first responder who made this Day of Service a powerful expression of love in action.

Service is how we honor the dream.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us that real change begins with courage, compassion, and a commitment to serve something greater than ourselves.

His words continue to challenge us—not just to remember his legacy, but to live it. To stand for justice when it’s uncomfortable. To love when it’s easier to turn away. To believe that our actions, no matter how small, can shape a more just and hopeful world.

At Mount Olive Development Corporation, we carry forward Dr. King’s vision by uplifting communities, expanding opportunity, and working every day toward equity and dignity for all.

Let us move beyond remembrance and into responsibility.

As we reflect on the life, legacy, and leadership of Dr. King, we are reminded that justice is not passive — it requires courage, compassion, and collective action. His words continue to call us to stand for equity, dignity, and love in our communities today.

At Mount Olive Development Corporation, we remain committed to advancing his vision through service, advocacy, and empowerment. May we not only remember Dr. King’s words, but live them out daily.

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, stand with survivors, and commit ourselves to action.

Florida has the third highest number of reported human trafficking cases in the nation—a sobering reality that demands our attention and advocacy. Human trafficking thrives in silence, but awareness saves lives.

Here in Broward County, the Nancy J. Cotterman Center (NJCC) provides critical crisis intervention, survivor support, and education to help communities recognize and respond to human trafficking, sexual assault, and child abuse. Their work is life-saving and transformative.

If you or someone you know needs help, support is available 24/7:
📞 Crisis Hotline: 954-761-7273
📞 National Human Trafficking Hotline: 1-888-373-7888

Let us be vigilant. Let us be compassionate. Let us be bold in protecting the dignity and freedom of every person.

Human trafficking is happening in our communities—often hidden in plain sight. It preys on vulnerability and silence, and we cannot afford to look away.

At Mount Olive Development Corporation (MODCO), we believe every person deserves safety, dignity, and freedom. Human trafficking is modern-day slavery, and it disproportionately affects women, children, and those already facing instability.
