When you think of Broward County parks, trails and natural areas might come to mind first. But for decades, theyโ€™ve also served as an outdoor gallery.

As we wrap up celebrating , weโ€™re sharing a look at the partnership between Broward County Parks and our Public Art & Design Program. Under the leadership of longtime Broward County Parks and Recreation Division Director Dan West, our countyโ€™s parks have continued to evolve as places where nature, recreation, and public art come together.

Artists have drawn inspiration from South Floridaโ€™s landscapes and wildlife to create works that enhance the places we explore and connect with nature. From sculptures inspired by native birds and wildlife to installations that reflect the Everglades and our unique environment, these artworks help tell the story of Broward County while creating memorable experiences for park visitors.

This is just a small preview of the stories, artworks, and partnerships featured in the upcoming Public Art & Design 50-Year Retrospective. Stay tuned. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŽจ

If you havenโ€™t made it to ๐˜š๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข ๐˜๐˜ด ๐˜•๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ yet, consider this your reminder! The exhibition closes June 27 at African American Research Library and Cultural Center

Through the lens of photojournalist James โ€œSpiderโ€ Martin, ๐˜š๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข ๐˜๐˜ด ๐˜•๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ captures one of the most pivotal moments in American history. His photographs documented the 1965 voting rights marches in Selma, Alabama, bringing the courage of peaceful protesters and the realities they faced into homes across the country.

60 years later, these newly restored images continue to resonate, offering a powerful opportunity to reflect on the ongoing impact of the Civil Rights Movement and the individuals who helped shape our democracy.

Donโ€™t miss your chance to experience this moving exhibition before it closes!

If youโ€™ve already visited, weโ€™d love to hear what resonated with you most. And if not, tag someone youโ€™d like to experience it with. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Where Public Art Lives: Broward County Libraries ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

For nearly 50 years, Broward County has invested in public art as part of its civic infrastructure, bringing creativity into the places people visit every day, including our libraries.

Looking to explore public art through Broward County Libraries? Here are a few works to discover:

These are just a few examples of how public art is woven into everyday spaces across Broward County.

This fall, a new publication celebrating 50 years of public art in Broward County will highlight works like these across County agencies and the communities they serve.

Presented by Broward County's Public Art & Design Program, more from the 50th anniversary series coming soon.
