As your Broward County Commissioner and longtime resident I am deeply concerned by the shut down of Spirit Airlines that was headquartered here in Broward County. For years, this company has been a significant part of our local economy—providing thousands of jobs and opportunities for hardworking residents across our community not to mention the low fare options that gave so many of our residents the ability to travel more broadly.
This decision impacts not just employees, but families, small businesses, and the broader economic fabric of our county. My thoughts are with every worker and household now facing uncertainty.
Broward County has always been built on resilience, innovation, and the strength of its people. It is my hope that we will do everything that we can by working with local, state, and regional partners to support impacted employees—connecting them with job placement resources, workforce programs, and new opportunities within our growing industries.
While this moment is difficult, it does not define us. Broward remains a hub for aviation, tourism, and business, and we will continue to fight for investments that create quality jobs and economic stability for our residents.
To those affected: we stand with you, and we are committed to helping you navigate what comes next!
