Planning to hit the road this Labor Day? A little preparation can help make your trip safer and smoother.

During major holiday travel periods, FDOT typically suspends non-essential lane closures to help accommodate increased traffic. However, necessary closures, construction activities, and changing roadway conditions can still affect your trip.

Before heading out:

🚦 Check your route for current roadway conditions and closures.
📱 Use FL511 for real-time information on crashes, congestion, road closures, and other conditions.
🚧 Slow down in work zones and watch for workers, equipment, and changing traffic patterns.
đź‘€ Stay alert and avoid distractions behind the wheel.
⏰ Give yourself extra time and follow posted speed limits and traffic signs.

Checking conditions before you leave can help you avoid unexpected delays and choose the best route.

Traveling this Labor Day weekend? Make safety part of your plans.

Whether you’re heading across town or taking a longer road trip, the Broward MPO encourages everyone to take extra care behind the wheel.

📵 Put your phone down and keep your focus on the road.
🚫 Never drive impaired and plan a sober ride if you’re drinking.
↔️ Leave extra space between you and the vehicle ahead.
🚶‍♀️ Stay alert for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and other drivers.

Everyone has a role in making our roads safer. Before you head out this Labor Day weekend, make a plan to get there safely, and help others do the same.

How do you request a sidewalk in your neighborhood?

Sidewalks help create safer and more connected communities for pedestrians of all ages and abilities. If you'd like to request a new sidewalk in your neighborhood, here are a few steps to help get the process started:

âś… Determine who owns the road where you'd like the sidewalk installed (City or County) by viewing the Road Jurisdiction map here: https://bit.ly/RoadJurisdictionInteractive

âś… Contact the Public Works or Transportation Department responsible for that roadway

âś… Provide details about the location and explain why the sidewalk is needed

âś… Some requests may require a petition with signatures from households in the proposed area

Community involvement plays an important role in helping improve transportation infrastructure and pedestrian safety.
