Total Force modernization and information operations are the topics of today’s Scholars Profiles 2026 interview highlights.

1. Maj. Clayton “WASP” Champagne explores a Total Force approach to nuclear deterrence modernization. The Application Window for ’s School of Advanced Military Studies’ 2028 Advanced Military Studies Program is open NOW!

SAMS’ cornerstone program, AMSP educates warfighters to be critical and creative thinkers grounded in operational theory, doctrine, and history. Graduates of the program are the masters of operational art commanders demand to decide, fight and win in today’s large-scale combat operations environments.

Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. David Franks briefed this year’s International Military Students (IMS) of the Command and General Staff Officer Course (CGSOC). His presentation was part of a larger “Army Profession Panel” hosted by the International Military Student Office to enhance the IMS knowledge of all aspects of the Army Profession they will experience while attending CGSOC and living in the Fort Leavenworth community.

Last week, celebrated the dedicated careers of two college leaders. Mr. Jim Fain served as the International Military Student Division Director, and Mr. Marv Nickels served as the Command and General Staff School Deputy Director. Combined, the pair served the nation for 97 years, both on active duty and through civilian service.

Each served more than two decades in the halls of CGSC, impacting the careers of thousands of Command and General Staff Officer Course students and faculty.

Mr. Nickels was presented the Order of the Marechaussee – Gold for his devotion to the Military Police Corps during his active-duty service.

Thank you, Mr. Fain and Mr. Nickels, for your unwavering dedication to duty and for setting the example of selfless service.
