As a proud blind member of the Fort Lee community, Gretchen Harris says she is thrilled that Fort Lee now has two accessible pedestrian signals, with plans already underway to install two more to assist visually impaired pedestrians.

“These signals have made a tremendous difference,” said Gretchen. “It’s just enhanced my life.”

Accessible pedestrian signals help create a safer, more inclusive community by providing audible and tactile cues that allow pedestrians with vision impairments to cross streets more confidently and independently. Fort Lee remains committed to improving accessibility for all residents and visitors.

Today at 10am, the New Jersey Department of Transportation officially energized the new state-of-the-art crosswalk at the intersection of Route 5 and Abbott Boulevard.

This has long been considered one of the most dangerous areas for pedestrians to cross in town, and we are pleased to announce that the new crosswalk is now fully operational. The upgraded system is designed to improve visibility, enhance pedestrian safety, and help make crossing safer for residents and visitors alike.
