A big congratulations to SGT Baylor (2nd Platoon) and PFC Zimmerman (2nd Platoon) on agAin attaining the Triple Penny Sweep for the second month in a row! SGT Baylor took the 10th Battalion NCO of the month and PFC Zimmerman took 10th Battalion Soldier of the month for September 2021 home to the Mighty Triple One! The 2nd platoon sweep took the double Triple Penny sweep…we are taking suggestions on exactly what to call this but we are beaming with pride over the continued success and development of our Soldiers and junior NCOs! They constantly impress and epitomize the Army Values along the way.

A BIG congratulations to SSG Orduno (10th Transportation Battalion NCO of the Month for August 2021) and PV2 Lopez (10 Transportation Battalion Soldier of the Month for August 2021) of the Mighty Triple One for bringing the Triple Penny Sweep back! SGT Shirley took May’s NCOM, PFC Umberger took June’s SOM, SGT Amburn took July’s NCOM, and the Mighty Triple One has won one or both categories continuously for almost a year but the sweep has been thwarted for the last 3 months. SSG Orduno and PV2 Lopez proudly brought the dominance back home!

01 July 2021

This week, 111th QM CO conducted our culminating training exercise (CTE) for 3QTR FY21, Operation Marne MISCAP. This exercise was designed to mimic an operation conducted from 2007-2008 which was successful in finding the remains of two U.S. Soldiers who were captured, killed, and then interred by the Islamic State of Iraq. 111th's CTE was conducted at Fort Pickett, where each Mortuary Affairs platoon in the company was given one grid coordinate at a time to navigate to and then conduct a systematic search for remains. If no remains were found, the TOC issued the PLT another grid coordinate and the process was repeated. This mimics the true MISCAP mission in Iraq, where intelligence gathered from various searches revealed several possible locations for the remains of our Soldiers. All PLTs were successful in locating their assigned human remains (in the form of a mannequin) after navigating through 7-8 miles of rugged terrain, and all remains were returned to the TOC area for processing in the Mobile Integrated Remains Collection System (MIRCS). This was a successful training event where all MA PLTs accomplished a rigorous mission to ensure successful repatriation of U.S. Servicemember remains with maximum dignity, reverence, and respect. Triple One!

"I will never leave a fallen comrade."

29-30 April 2021

The 10th Transportation Battalion "Waterborne" hosted the FY21 3rd QTR 7th Transportation Brigade - Expeditionary NCO and Soldier of the Quarter Competition at Fort Lee, VA. The Mighty Triple One along with their sister company (54th Quartermaster Company) conducted the ex*****on of a 6 mile/35lb ruck march, a 50 question written knowledge test, a question and answer board, a record ACFT, Expert Soldier Badge lanes (Communications, M4/M249 functions, Search a Detainee, and First Aid), and EST M4 firing tables IV-VI. The Soldiers and NCOs of both Mortuary Affairs companies executed a flawless competition and upheld their rigorous training standard. Congratulations to all the participants!

23 April 2021

Congratulations to SSG Beckwith and PFC Sharkan from 111th QM CO for winning the 10th Transportation Battalion Soldier/NCO of the Month board for April 2021! These outstanding members of the company competed against at least 18 other contestants at tasks including weapons assembly/disassembly, physical fitness challenges, tactical combat casualty care, radio reports, and a knowledge board. Despite the odds, SSG Beckwith and PFC Sharkan emerged victorious. For those keeping track, this is the third time in a row that both a Soldier and NCO from 111th QM CO have won 10th BN Soldier and NCO of the Month. "Winning matters" is a key mantra in the Mighty Triple One, and SSG Beckwith and PFC Sharkan serve as yet another great example to the Soldiers in our ranks. The "Triple One Threepeat" is now in the books, and 111th QM CO will be eagerly competing for a quadruple repeat in May.

25 March 2021

Today, the Mighty Triple One conducted Operation Freight Train, our Culminating Training Exercise (CTE) for 2QTR FY21 (January-March 2021). Squads of Soldiers from each Mortuary Affairs platoon were validated on their performance of various Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills (WTBDs) that are foundational skills for all Soldiers in the U.S. Army. Soldiers reacted to direct fire contact from enemy forces, treated a casualty for a hemorrhage (the most dangerous battlefield injury), called up a 9 Line MEDEVAC report, and evacuated the casualty to a nearby landing zone (LZ). To increase training realism, air support was coordinated from B Co, 5-159 GSAB in the form of a CH-47 "Chinook" helicopter. Squads were able to load their non-ambulatory casualty onto the aircraft, take off and receive a familiarization flight, and then land and unload the casualty. This was a tremendously successful training event which was able to shatter the normal routine of simulated MEDEVACs and introduce Soldiers to the air assets used in real life missions.

Thanks again to B Co, 5-159 GSAB for the aviation support!

Until Valhalla!

PFC Sherrod from the Mighty Triple One was selected as the 10th Transportation Battalion Soldier of the Quarter for 2QTR FY21 (January-March 2021). We are immensely proud of PFC Sherrod: since reporting to the unit in July 2020, he has demonstrated persistent focus on learning from his NCOs to increase his skills as both a Soldier and a 92M Mortuary Affairs Specialist. He is already demonstrating the professional excellence expected of all Soldiers in 111th QM CO and serves as a standout example among his peers. Congratulations PFC Sherrod!

111th QM CO conducted our quarterly Guardian Games competition on 04 March 2021. This competition serves as validation of platoon level Leaders' Time Training (LTT) programs by testing a variety of skills trained throughout 2QTR FY21 (January-March 2021). The focus of this quarter's Guardian Games was Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills (WTBD), and teams of 5 Soldiers from each platoon competed on tasks including react to direct/indirect fire, evaluate and treat casualties, and operate communications systems. This Guardian Games also incorporated a grueling physical challenge: teams wore individual body armor and carried a 165lb "Rescue Randy" mannequin on a litter between each competition station on a course totaling over 2.5 miles. Soldiers finished the competition by completing a waterlogged obstacle course. All teams performed with teamwork, resilience, and professional excellence, but there can only be one winner. 1st Platoon (Punishers) emerged victorious and claimed the Guardian Games trophy! Triple One!

18 February 2021

Congratulations to SGT Taylor and PFC Hernandez of the Mighty Triple One for winning the 10th Transportation Battalion "Waterborne" NCO of the Month and Soldier of the Month boards! Both of these boards involve competition against representatives from the 15 companies and detachments in 10th TC BN (the largest BN in the U.S. Army). Only one Soldier and NCO emerge victorious each month; both from 111th this time around. Such occurrences in the future will be referred to as "The Triple Penny Sweep". Until Valhalla!

11 February 2021

Congratulations to the 111th QM CO team that competed in the 10th TC BN Waterborne *Stakes*! From 08-11 February, this team competed against representatives of other companies in the battalion in a variety of events, including an Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT), written knowledge test, obstacle course, 35lb ruck, marksmanship, and other Warrior Tasks. Team leader SSG Beckwith and team members SPC Hangan, SPC Gomez, PFC Mallott, PFC Umberger, SPC Amburn, SPC Tresner, SGT Estell, and PV2 Hardy competed with professionalism, excellence, and high intensity. They placed 3rd in the competition, beating out ultimate rivals and sister company 54th QM CO. We are incredibly proud of these Warriors of the Mighty Triple One! Until Valhalla!

16-19 November 2020

111th Quartermaster Company conducted a unit Deployment Readiness Exercise (DRE) and rolled straight into a unit Field Training Exercise (FTX) this week. Soldiers received a mock deployment alert and rail loaded equipment prior to deploying to Fort Eustis and conducting 24-hour Mortuary Affairs operations. The unit conducted training to reinforce dignity, reverence, and respect while processing U.S. Servicemember remains from point of death to point of evacuation from theater. 111th Soldiers conducted search and recovery missions to retrieve remains and returned them to the nearest Mortuary Affairs Collection Point (MACP) for processing. From the MACP, remains were transported to the Theater Mortuary Evacuation Point (TMEP) for case file validation and placement into flag-draped transfer cases. The company then leveraged aviation assets for maximum training realism while conducting ramp ceremonies. These ceremonies are a solemn and dignified affair where flag-draped transfer cases are loaded onto aircraft for return to U.S. soil from a theater of operation. Our Soldiers performed all tasks to standard with excellence and dedication, continuing to display the company's ability to deploy with short notice and provide the best available Mortuary Affairs support to our fallen heroes. Triple One!

28-29 September 2020

The 111th Quartermaster Company conducted rail load training to maintain Soldier and unit proficiency in expeditionary deployment operations. Soldiers learned how to stage equipment and prepare rail cars for loading/unloading with spanners, how to ground guide equipment on rail cars, and how to secure equipment using different types of chains and tiedown devices. The company remains ready to deploy via any means of transportation to provide Mortuary Affairs support wherever it is needed. Triple One!
