In honor of National Dog Day we bring you the cutest dog blanket! Military working dogs have incredible importance for all branches of the Armed Forces, but units would also employ dogs for non-tactical reasons, like morale boosters. During WWI, a dog attached to the 10th Engineers, Company B may have had Sentry duties, be deployed for pest control and offer companionship. While this dog blanket is not currently on display, it is still very much loved. While we do not have a photo of a dog wearing this particular blanket, the National Archives has a photo of a dog from Company B, 111th Machine Gun Battalion wearing a similar blanket. The dog in this picture may have been in France the same time a dog from the 10th Engineers wore their blanket.
