SPONSORS SECOND ANNUAL
HOLIDAY LIGHTING CONTEST
The Fort Lupton Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Second Annual Holiday Lighting Contest. All residents of the City of Fort Lupton, as well as Weld County residents residing within 5 miles of the City, are eligible to participate. There are three categories for prizes this year: Residence Award (1st and 2nd place), Business ......Award (1st and 2nd Place), and the Mayor’s Award. United Power is helping sponsor the lighting contest this year and has contributed prize money for this year’s winners. The contest’s first place winners in both categories and the Mayor’s Award will receive $150 and an engraved award ornament while
second place winners will receive $75 and an engraved award ornament. Judging will be based on theme, creativity and use of holiday decorations. Previous winners must wait one year before re-entering the contest.
Residents of the City of Fort Lupton will automatically be entered in the contest. County residents within the 5 mile radius of the City are encouraged to call the Fort Lupton Chamber of Commerce to register their residence by December 9th.
A local volunteer organization or group will be traveling and scoring the holiday lights during the week of December 12th. All lights must be on by 6pm each
evening. Awards will be announced and publicized on Monday, December 19th.

FLPD’S ANNUAL SPAGHETTI DINNER
The Fort Lupton Police Department will host a spaghetti dinner fund-raiser from 6-9 PM (or until food runs out), Friday, August 20, 2010, in the Multi Purpose Room, Fort Lupton Recreation Center, at 203 S. Harrison Ave. All proceeds for this event will go towards the pur-chase of school supplies for students in need. Tickets will be $5 each. Dinner includes salad, dessert, beverages and spaghetti & sauce. Thirty-one students from Ft. Lupton Middle School and their sponsor, Mrs. Tara Boyer, came to City Hall April 14, where they shadowed a City employee for the day. After lunch, the students returned to City Hall & were entertained by the Police Department’s taser presentation. Those students chosen to shadow a Council member returned at 7 pm, where they conducted the City Council meeting, asking questions, and voting on agenda items.

On February 22, 2010, the Fort Lupton Police Department held its annual awards and recognition dinner at the Community Center. Chief Ron Grannis presented numerous awards commending the officers and employees for their outstanding service provided to the citizens of Fort Lupton.

The Officer of the Year Award was presented dually to Sgt. Kevin Halloran and Det. Crystal Schwartz for a year of dedicated service to the Citizens and the department.
Recipients of the Star Award included Officer Ryan Demmel, for coordinating police presence during Trapper Days, and Officer Dan Black, for his performance in handling the burglary at the Vestas Plant. The Chief’s Commendation Awards were presented to Cpl. Adrian Drelles and Officer Jason Verkuyl, for their response to an attempted su***de incident, and to Officer Dan Black, for his heroic efforts in the resuscitation of a child. Sgt. Kevin Halloran, Cpl. Martin Amarillas, and Officer Paul Stipe received the Life Saving Medal for their prompt response to a structure fire in an occupied home. CSO Mary Albee received a Special Award for her contributions to National Night Out and many other duties.

Mayor Tommy Holton donated two sets of hockey tickets as Community Presented Awards to the officers and staff. The tickets were won by Sgt. Kevin Halloran and Det. Crystal Schwartz. As a thank you for service to the community, Don Tomoi, President of Bank of Colorado, gave each Police Department employee a gift card to Starbucks. Citizen of the Year plaques were presented to Cris Cross, Jessica Welch and James Mayor for their assistance in apprehending a gang of juveniles that had broken into numerous cars in Fort Lupton.
