On February 22, 2010, the Fort Lupton Police Department held its annual awards and recognition dinner at the Community Center. Chief Ron Grannis presented numerous awards commending the officers and employees for their outstanding service provided to the citizens of Fort Lupton.
The Officer of the Year Award was presented dually to Sgt. Kevin Halloran and Det. Crystal Schwartz for a year of dedicated service to the Citizens and the department.
Recipients of the Star Award included Officer Ryan Demmel, for coordinating police presence during Trapper Days, and Officer Dan Black, for his performance in handling the burglary at the Vestas Plant. The Chief’s Commendation Awards were presented to Cpl. Adrian Drelles and Officer Jason Verkuyl, for their response to an attempted su***de incident, and to Officer Dan Black, for his heroic efforts in the resuscitation of a child. Sgt. Kevin Halloran, Cpl. Martin Amarillas, and Officer Paul Stipe received the Life Saving Medal for their prompt response to a structure fire in an occupied home. CSO Mary Albee received a Special Award for her contributions to National Night Out and many other duties.
Mayor Tommy Holton donated two sets of hockey tickets as Community Presented Awards to the officers and staff. The tickets were won by Sgt. Kevin Halloran and Det. Crystal Schwartz. As a thank you for service to the community, Don Tomoi, President of Bank of Colorado, gave each Police Department employee a gift card to Starbucks. Citizen of the Year plaques were presented to Cris Cross, Jessica Welch and James Mayor for their assistance in apprehending a gang of juveniles that had broken into numerous cars in Fort Lupton.
