Fort McKavett Volunteer Fire Department We are a 100% volunteer Fire Department serving Fort McKavett, Western Menard County, and surrounding area since 2001. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Our meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 6 PM in Fort McKavett, Texas.

The Commissioner's Court voted to reinstate the burn ban this morning based on current conditions and the forecast of high heat and wind this week.

ON JULY 17, 2026, THE MENARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RECEIVED A 911 AT CALL AT 10:23 PM FROM A MAN STATING THE HE WAS IN THE WATER ON FM 864. THE MAN SAID THE WATER WAS UP TO HIS WINDOWS AND HE WAS GETTING ON TOP OF HIS VEHICLE.
MENARD COUNTY DEPUTY ARMANDO OSORNIO, MENARD VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, FORT MCKAVETT VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, MENARD EMS AND THE SEARCH AND RESCUE CREWS THAT HAD BEEN STATIONED IN MENARD COUNTY FOR THE FLOODING FROM ALL THE RAINS IN THE AREA.
THE MAN THAT CALLED 911 WAS SUCCESSFULLY RESCUED WITHOUT INJURY TO ALL INVOLVED. THE MAN, IDENTIFIED AS MAXWELL STEVENSON OF SUMERDUCK VIRGINIA WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH DISOBEY WARNING SIGNS/BARRICADES OVER ROADS 472.022(a)TRC MB.
THE MENARD COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE WANTS TO THANK ALL FIRST RESPONDERS FOR THE GREAT WORK THEY DO.

At 10:20 PM firefighters were called out to 864 at the San Saba River where a man was stuck on the top of his vehicle in the water.

The man has been successfully saved.

Please stay away from 864 as the road is still closed and the San Saba River which is still over 19 ft!

Our department along with Menard, Eldorado, Sonora, and TX Task Force 1 are responding to a vehicle washed off the road on 864 south of Fort McKavett!

Please stay off of 864!

Update: There was no vehicle or people present. We believe there may have been a mix up in communication. No one is in danger or harmed that we are aware of.
