Rescission of Boil Water Notice

📢BOIL WATER NOTICE

Please see the attached Precautionary Boil Water Notice issued due to emergency water main break repairs affecting portions of the water distribution system.

As a precautionary measure, customers in the affected area are advised to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, or washing dishes until the notice has been lifted.

City staff and contractors are working actively to complete the necessary repairs, and we will conduct the required bacteriological sampling to ensure water quality standards are met. A rescission notice will be issued once satisfactory test results are received.

Fort Meade Fire Department would like to advise residents that crews responded to a brush/wildland fire in the area of Hendry Avenue South and 9th Street SE on May 9, 2026. The fire has been contained and extinguished with no structures threatened and no injuries reported.

Residents in the surrounding area may continue to experience light smoke conditions for the next couple of days due to smoldering vegetation and ongoing burnout of organic material within the affected area.

During firefighting operations, crews utilized the fire hydrant located at the corner of Hendry Avenue South and 9th Street SE for water supply operations. As a result, nearby residents may temporarily notice discolored water, sediment, or reduced water pressure. If discoloration occurs, residents are encouraged to run cold water for several minutes until the water clears.

Fort Meade Fire Department would also like to remind all residents that Polk County remains under an active burn ban. Outdoor burning is prohibited during this period due to extremely dry conditions and increased wildfire danger. Residents are urged to use caution and immediately report any signs of smoke or fire.

The City of Fort Meade Fire Department would like to extend sincere appreciation to Polk County Fire Rescue for their assistance, manpower, apparatus support, and coordinated efforts during this incident.
