Humane Society of York County Humane Society of York County is a no-kill 501(c)(3) rescue in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Our Mission:
To find loving fur-ever homes for dogs and cats.

The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) is an independent local non-profit organization dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. We are a qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Fort Mill, South Carolina, and serve the greater Charlotte region including York, Lancaster and Mecklenburg counties. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law, and 100% of your donati

on remains with the HSYC to benefit the pets in our care. To ensure cats and dogs are treated in a humane manner, are rescued, and are placed in loving and forever homes by:
- Increasing dog and cat rescues and adoptions
- Empowering the environment so pet owners are responsible and accountable for their actions
- Supporting spay and neuter programs for community dogs and cats
- Providing a Helping Hands Program to assist with critical treatment for dogs and cats in need

Since we are finally catching up on our Happy Tails, we couldn’t let today go by without another exciting dog adoption, sweet Ritz!

We first met Ritz when we showed up to work one day and he was left overnight in a kennel at our door. It was a sad situation but he greeted us with his infamous big smile and won us over quickly. Ritz did test positive for heartworms and went thru his treatment like a champ while recently testing heartworm negative!

Ritz was overlooked very often and we could never understand why. He was sweet, loving, dog friendly, funny, and everything you’d want in a friend. Sometimes that’s just the sad reality of shelter life and we knew one day he’d find a forever match.

As soon as this family met Ritz, they knew it was game over. They were over the moon with excitement to welcome him into their home. His name is now Remy and his new family say he loves to cuddle, get zoomies in the yard, and hang with his new doggy brother!

We thank Ritz’s new family for seeing how amazing he truly is and for allowing us to finally say Happy Tails Ritz!

All Happy Tails are sweet, but some just hit a little harder.

Parker, a young lab mix, was having a hard time adjusting to the shelter life due to his high energy! He needed a family to give him love and exercise. One day he came barreling down the hall, dressed up in his new harness, and ready to hop in the car with an adopter. Until he barked, and sadly that sealed the deal and he was “deemed too energetic”. So back to his kennel he went. It was heartbreaking for staff to know he was so close to his chance but rejected, however we believe all things happen for a reason! And for Parker that was certainly the case.
One day a wonderful lady came in to drop off donations and just asked on a whim if we had time to introduce her to Parker. We informed her he had an adoption appointment at that time but it seemed they stood us up to which she immediately replied, “Oh I’ll take their spot!” and within about 10 minutes, she was filling out an application! After a flawless home visit, Parker finally found his people! He is now romping around in a beautiful yard and spending lots of time on the couch cuddling!
Parker knew his happy ever after was out there somewhere and we are so thrilled to say Happy Tails to sweet Parker!

Laura has been waiting very patiently for her family… and she’s decided today is the day. In fact, she’s so sure you’re coming that she’s already packed a bag with all her favorite things.

So come on out to PAWSibilities - The Humane Society of York County's "Second Chance" Shop today and meet the goddess herself. She’s packed, she’s ready, and all she needs now is someone to take her home!

We will have somebody available there to show her off today! So come on in!
