On Memorial Day, one may hear a single bugle call sounding Taps. It is played in honor of those who dedicated their lives to the defense of our nation. Civil War Major General Daniel Butterfield composed it while recuperating at Berkeley Plantation after the Seven Days Battles in Virginia. Today, we honor those who gave their lives to defend our nation and remember them for their service and sacrifice.
