If you are in an abusive relationship and have pets in your home, it can be a good idea to make your pets part of your safety plan. Here are some suggestions 🐾:

💜 If you’re thinking about getting a protective order, consider that some states allow pets to be a part of these.
💜 Take steps to prove ownership of your pet: have them vaccinated and license them with your town, ensuring that these registrations are made in your name.
💜 Talk to friends, family or your veterinarian about temporary care for your pet. If that is not an option, The Purple Leash Project, a partnership between and helps make pet-friendly domestic violence shelters more accessible to survivors.

A healthy partner encourages you to achieve your goals. They don’t resent your accomplishments or make you feel guilty for spending time with other people, and they aren’t excessively jealous.

Ask yourself if:
🧡 Your partner supports you and your decisions even when they disagree with you.
🧡 Your partner respects you and your individuality.
🧡 Your partner understands and respects your need to spend time with friends or family.

Everybody deserves to be in a healthy relationship free from violence, and you should always take it seriously if there’s violence in your relationship. To learn more about dating basics: what should I look for, click here: https://bit.ly/40rpDO3

It's not as easy as simply walking away. Abusive relationships are extremely complex situations and it takes a lot of courage to leave. Abuse is about power and control.

No matter the circumstances, survivors deserve to be supported in their decision-making and empowered to reclaim control over their own lives. 💜

It can be so difficult to watch someone you care about deal with an abusive relationship. If you find yourself in this role, learn and read more about why people stay.

I know that it’s frightening to leave. Make a plan. Important papers and just go. Don’t speak of it, just go. It is the scariest time for someone to leave. When you walk out the door. Don’t look back. Just keep going. Your future is ahead of you. Your freedom, to be you and yiu deserve freedom. 💜 Wendyx
