Celebrating five amazing families for National Adoption Month

Beth and Jimmy Cundiff from Bayfield, certified by La Plata County
Ten years ago Beth and Jimmy met two brothers, Devin and Zayden, who were in foster care with Beth’s sister in Denver. The couple became foster parents so they could care for the brothers, and they would later go on to adopt them. Since then, Beth and Jimmy have adopted three more children and youth and they continue to care for older youth in foster care. Jimmy is a football coach, and the family has a passion for sports. They participate in football as well as wrestling and basketball. They also enjoy participating in outdoor activities together, including paddle boarding, hunting and fishing.

During the #COVID19 crisis, what happens when youth age out of foster care without a family?

They could be navigating this deadly pandemic and one of the greatest economic recessions of our lifetime. . .alone. With no safety net, many will end up homeless, unemployed and at a higher risk of contracting the virus. Please, help us find forever families for teens in foster care before it's too late.

Baby Bear Hugs

Your donation to Baby Bear Hugs goes further through Colorado Gives Day!
This is a great time to support children and families by donating to Baby Bear Hugs. Colorado Gives Day 2020 is an initiative to increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving to Colorado charities. Again this year there is a million-dollar incentive fund that will increase every donation given through Colorado Gives Day. This FirstBank Incentive Fund will be proportionally allocated across all donations received. Please help us reach our goal of $30,000. To donate to Baby Bear Hugs, just go to www.coloradogives.org/babybearhugs. You can give any time now through December 8, 2020 and it will count toward Colorado Gives Day. We know that COVID-19 has impacted nearly every facet of our lives, and giving can be one of those facets - so we understand if you are not able to give at the rate you would previously, or maybe not at all. However, please consider, as Colorado Gives Day is a great opportunity for increased value to your donation and to support families and children.

Fort Morgan High School

Fort Morgan High School will be going to our blue schedule with 100% remote learning starting tomorrow November 5th, 2020. Please have students log into their classes during the scheduled time. The reason for the change in schedule is because FMHS recently had four positive covid tests and numerous staff members needing to be quarantined. Thank you for being flexible and we will keep everyone up to date.

Weldon Valley School District

Weldon Valley School District

Good evening! Weldon Valley RE-20J will be operating under the red phase of our COVID-19 plan starting tomorrow, November 4, 2020 due to multiple positive COVID-19 tests within our school community. The results of the tests were shared with us this afternoon. Therefore, all learning activities will take place at home under the direction of the student’s teachers beginning tomorrow. We anticipate that the District will be under the red phase until December 1.
Time schedules for students in grades 7-12 have been discussed with the students, and teachers will communicate directly with the students concerning time periods that they will be required to be in attendance. Parents and students in grades K-6 will be notified by their teachers concerning their schedules.
Students needing a computer or hotspot to facilitate learning will be able to pick these items up at the school beginning on Monday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m. Parents were asked earlier in the school year to notify the school in advance if they needed a computer or hotspot in the case that the District went into remote learning. In addition, teachers have recently asked for students in need of a computer or hotspot and that information has been shared with us.
Learning packets for elementary grades will be delivered on Monday, November 9. Those packets will need to be completed and ready for pickup on Thursday, November 12 at which time they will receive materials for the following week.
Lunches will be delivered starting on Monday, November 9. Lunches are free, however, parents need to call the school office before 9 a.m. to reserve your lunches.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your student’s teachers by email or class dojo.
Thank you for your patience and understanding and have a good evening.
