The Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve has been granted approval by the Lee County Board of Commissioners to name the bridge leading into Matanzas Pass Preserve "Betty's Bridge." The bridge will be named in honor of Betty Davis Simpson, who has been actively involved with Matanzas Pass Preserve since 1996, when the Stewardship Committee was formally incorporated as the Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve. Betty has always supported Lee County Parks and Recreation and has served on their Advisory Committee board for over 30 years and on the Board of the Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve since 2009. Betty's continued efforts have helped shape the Preserve we have today. Betty served on the Town of Fort Myers Beach incorporation committee and actively participated in its formation and early organization. She worked tirelessly for the town she loved and volunteered for many of its organizations and advisory boards. Betty will be missed, but the legacy of her long volunteer efforts will live on.
