On Saturday, November 05, 2022 at 12:00 PM in downtown Fort Myers, the Florida Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival is hosting ⭐ We Demand Real Recovery - Tell the Truth Rally and Press Conference ⭐ St. Phillip CME Church - 1920 Lillie Street, Fort Myers, FL 33916 US

Link to RSVP: https://actionnetwork.org/events/we-demand-real-relief-tell-the-truth-rally-and-press-conference

The call to action reads:

“Poor and low-income communities are bearing the worst of the impacts of Hurricane Ian, and the crisis is not over.

Poor people were left without time or resources to evacuate, and are not getting needed relief and support to rebuild their lives and communities. Their stories are being left out of the narrative of our state's recovery

FEMA has declared a disaster in over 20 counties, but DeSantis is only offering extra protection for voting rights in 3 of them, and the ones most likely to deliver votes for him in the upcoming election. This is shameful and immoral policy: We can't allow the climate crisis to deepen the exclusion of poor people from our democracy.

Nobody needed to die in this storm - it's shown how ecological devastation and climate chaos is an issue that has to be addressed from the bottom up. It was the poor, the homeless and those in mobile home parks and substandard housing, the elderly, and disabled people who were faced with the most threatening situations. Our rebuilding has to be on foundations of justice, with relief not just from the storm but from decades of policy violence that led to this point. We need housing, health care, living wage, and climate adaptation and mitigation policies that focus on the 9.8 million poor and low-income people across our state who are most threatened by climate change.

We are calling on poor and low-income people, faith communities, and all people of conscience to come together in Fort Myers to shift the narrative of this storm, compel the state and the nation to face the truth, and declare our commitment to fighting for a genuine and just recovery.

Following the rally and press conference, we will go out into the community to check on neighbors, provide relief and information, and organize people to vote and to join the movement.”

Families are being evicted left and right following hurricane Ian. Social media posts have brought this crisis to light. Understanding FL tenants rights and empowering families before they become displaced & bought out is essential. Sickening to see this exploitation happening in large numbers during such a vulnerable time.

A notice to 'vacate immediately' caused panic among residents of the Harmony Shores mobile home park. Collier County didn't issue the order.

Community foodshare thanks to SWFL Red Cloaks
and Women's Voices of SW Florida 💛 Monday October 10th at Apostolic House of God Church in Ft. Myers. DONATIONS AND ITEMS NEEDED:

Hi! We've partnered with the tireless, gracious and generous Womens Voices of SWFL to run a supply and food drive next Monday in the heavily hit Dunbar community.

There is no power at the church. But we will make due. We could use grills or propane table top griddles. We need supplies and donations of non perishables, baby needs, female hygiene, household hygiene and cleaning goods, clean bedding, socks and underwear.

Folding tables or tents to provide sun protection also welcomed

Please DM me for an address in Fort Myers to drop donations if you are able. If financial donations are doable. The flyer shares a venmo and a cash app for the cause.
