Florida snapping turtles may look like slow-moving creatures, but they have some impressive adaptations that help them survive! 🐢

Florida snapping turtles can reach their long necks back over their own shell and snap halfway down the top of their shell, known as the carapace!

This impressive flexibility helps them defend themselves when they feel threatened.

Last week, 2,000 native plants were added to Bob Janes Preserve using funding from an FWC gopher tortoise habitat improvement grant. 🌱🐢

Approximately 1,300 acres of Bob Janes Preserve have been placed under a permanent conservation easement to support gopher tortoise relocation. This project marked the third large-scale restoration effort to transform a former hay field into a thriving pine flatwoods community, creating quality habitat that helps keep relocated gopher tortoises in Lee County.
