“Teen Takeover” gatherings have increasingly drawn attention nationwide due to incidents involving disorderly behavior, property damage, traffic interference, injuries, and arrests. Events that begin as informal social meetups can quickly develop into situations that are unsafe for both participants and the surrounding community.

The Fort Myers Police Department actively works with community partners and uses investigative resources to stay informed about planned events that may pose a risk to public safety. When needed, officers will intervene and take appropriate action to protect our community.

Depending on your actions, you could face charges such as:

• Criminal Mischief
• Battery
• Obstructing Traffic
• Disorderly Conduct
• Trespassing
• Resisting an Officer
• Fleeing and eluding
• Inciting a riot
• Aggravated rioting

The impact of an arrest can last well beyond a single night. Criminal charges can affect school activities, job opportunities, and other important future goals.

We encourage parents and guardians to have conversations with their teens about making responsible decisions, understanding the consequences of their actions, and avoiding situations that could impact their future.

June is PTSD Awareness Month.

Not all wounds are visible. This month, we recognize those living with PTSD and encourage understanding, support, and open conversations about mental health.

Together, we can help break the stigma and remind those who are struggling that they are not alone.
