Every photo on this wall is someone deeply loved.

Our memory wall is a very real reminder of why we’re here.

Walking through the doors of Valerie’s House for the first time isn’t easy. Grief isn’t easy. But there is something powerful about being with other people who understand what you’re going through.

If you know a grieving child or family who needs support, we’re here when they’re ready.

A peaceful new space for our families 💚

A big thank you to Henry Starnes and his fellow Scouts from Troop 193 for transforming part of our outdoor space at Valerie’s House.

As Henry works toward becoming an Eagle Scout, he led the group in building and painting a new bench and picnic table, planting butterfly plants and spreading fresh mulch.

This beautiful spot near the lake will give our grieving children and families a quiet place to talk, reflect and spend time together. We’re so grateful for the time and heart Henry and his fellow Scouts put into creating something that will be used for years to come.

“I wish I had this when I was that 10-year-old boy.”

Happy birthday to our board member and past board chair, Mike McMurray!

Mike’s connection to Valerie’s House has always been personal. When he first met Angela years ago, they discovered they had both lost a parent in a car accident at 10 years old. Mike says he knew immediately there was a reason they had met.

Since then, he has been all in.

He’s served on our board, led groups, mentored our kids, volunteered on group nights and spent plenty of time shooting hoops with them before group starts. Our families know Mike, and they love him.

So it probably won’t surprise anyone that during his birthday week, Mike decided he wanted to give instead of receive. He sponsored dinner for one of our group nights.

Mike says Valerie’s House has become “part of my purpose in life.”

We’re very grateful it has. Happy birthday, Mike, and thank you for making sure other 10-year-old kids don’t have to grieve alone.

Thank you, Mighty Mussels! ⚾

We’re really thankful for our friends at the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels and the way they continue to think of Valerie’s House and our families.

They made Sunday extra special for Richard, one of the kids in our program who loves baseball. Before the game, Richard got to run out onto the field and deliver the resin bag to the pitcher’s mound, which was such a cool experience for him and his family.

A portion of every ticket sold through our link also came back to Valerie’s House to support our programs for grieving children and families.

We love when our community partners find special ways to support our families. Thank you, Mighty Mussels!

What won’t Emely do for our families?

She made five sprints through an absolute downpour to bring in dinner from our friends at Highpoint at Cape Coral.

Emely got soaked, dinner stayed dry.

Now that’s dedication!

Thank You, Heather 💙

Friday was Heather’s final day on staff at Valerie’s House, and saying so long to someone who has been part of this organization since the beginning isn’t easy.

Heather first came to Valerie’s House with her daughter, Hailey, after her husband Matt died. She later joined our staff, serving as our Business and HR Manager before becoming Director of Finance.

Over the years, Heather became one of the people who helped hold Valerie’s House together. She worked incredibly hard and wore more hats than we could ever count, but she never lost sight of why we are here. No matter how busy she was, our grieving children and families came first.

If a family needed help, she was there. If a child needed someone to draw or color with, Heather would grab the crayons and sit beside them. If someone needed a tour, she was on it.

Heather also led our caregiver groups, using her own experience with grief to support and connect with so many of our families.

Heather, thank you for your years of hard work, dedication and love for Valerie’s House and our families. Your impact here has been incredible.

Thankfully, this isn’t goodbye for good. Heather will continue leading groups as a volunteer and will always be part of our Valerie’s House family. 💙
