Statewide Emergency Alert System

🚨🚨🚨 One year after the deadly Camp Mystic flooding that claimed the life of 8-year-old Homewood native Sarah Marsh, Alabama’s new statewide emergency alert system is officially live.

Governor Kay Ivey and Alabama lawmakers pushed for the $1.2 million system after the Texas tragedy exposed deadly failures in warning and preparedness.

Alabamians can receive faster alerts for floods, severe weather and other disasters directly on their phones.

“As I announced in January, our new statewide notification system will ensure all Alabamians have the greatest access to warnings of disasters including flooding,” Governor Ivey said Tuesday.

“Protecting the safety of all Alabamians, especially our children, is our top priority and this statewide flood notification system will enable families to receive more timely alerts to prepare and stay safe.”

Our final post about this month’s Jamboree fundraiser is about a delicious part of our event.

19 of our local dancers from Jackson and DeKalb Counties provided over 300 servings of dessert for our attendees. Most of them were homemade!

We are so grateful for the time and effort they put into them for us!

Everyone was able to choose 2 kinds of dessert and all of our leftovers went to the Sheriff’s office the following Monday.
