๐Ÿพ National Pet ID Week is Here! (April 17โ€“23) ๐Ÿพ

Fort Pierce Animal Control is highlighting the importance of making sure pets have proper identification. A simple ID tag or microchip can make all the difference in helping a lost pet find its way back home safely.

Every year, countless pets are separated from their familiesโ€”but with up-to-date identification, reunions happen faster and more often. Taking a few minutes to check collars, tags, and microchip information can provide peace of mind and protect pets in unexpected situations.

If a pet is not yet microchipped, now is the perfect time to consider it. This quick and safe process can be a lifelong safeguard.

Because every pet deserves a safe way home. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

๐Ÿพ Keep Our Pets Safe & Our Community Strong! ๐Ÿพ

Did you know that in the city of Fort Pierce, it is unlawful for any animal โ€” including dogs and cats โ€” to roam off-leash or โ€œat largeโ€ within city limits? According to the city code:

โ€œAnimals shall not be allowed outside the confines of their own homes without proper restraint by means of leash, fenced area โ€ฆโ€

Hereโ€™s why it matters:

When pets roam free, theyโ€™re at increased risk of getting lost, injured, hit by a vehicle, or causing a disturbance.

Unleashed, unaltered pets can contribute to unwanted litters โ€” which increases the local pet population and creates more pressure on our shelter system.

More pets in our shelters means fewer resources and less space for those animals who truly need help finding homes.

By keeping your pet leashed and safely secured, youโ€™re doing your part: protecting your pet, protecting your neighbors, and helping our local shelter serve the community more effectively.

๐Ÿ’ก Good to know:

The city is also committed to helping reduce the number of unaltered pets through our low-cost and free spay/neuter program.

If your pet is unspayed/unneutered and roaming, they not only risk unintended litters, but they also risk higher registration/licensing fees and more enforcement issues.

๐Ÿ“ Want to learn more about the spay/neuter voucher program or to keep your pet registered and safe? Visit the cityโ€™s program page here https://www.cityoffortpierce.com/334/Spay-Neuter-Program

Letโ€™s all work together to keep Fort Pierce safe, compassionate, and pet-friendly for everyone! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑโค๏ธ
