This week, Sgt. Simon, along with members of our Crime Scene Unit, K-9 Unit, Drone Team, and Recruiting Team, had the opportunity to meet with a great group of middle and high school students participating in the TRIO Educational Talent Search Summer Program at Indian River State College.

Students got an up-close look at some of the specialized tools and technology used by our department, learned about different career paths in law enforcement, and had the chance to interact with officers and unit members who serve our community every day.

Thank you to Mr. Cesar for inviting us to be part of your day and for providing students with valuable opportunities to explore future educational and career possibilities.

The Fort Pierce Police Department is proud to announce the 8th Annual Unity in Our Community event, taking place on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the Fort Pierce Recreation Center at 903 S. 21st Street in Fort Pierce.

This free, family-friendly event is open to all members of the community and is designed to bring residents and law enforcement together for a day of fun, fellowship, and community connection.

Attendees can enjoy a wide variety of activities and attractions, including food, face painting, K-9 demonstrations, music, talent spotlight, photo booth, bounce houses, community fellowship, adult health screenings provided by local service organizations, and much more.

UPDATE: After spending several days in the intensive care unit, the 16-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on June 15, 2026.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Although an arrest has been made, detectives continue to gather evidence and review all aspects of the case.

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Fort Pierce Police Department officers responded to a shooting incident in the 2100 block of Avenue N after detectives from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office were traveling eastbound on Avenue N when they heard multiple gunshots fired in the area. The detectives immediately observed three juvenile males fleeing the area in different directions.

As officers and deputies began to pursue the fleeing suspects, they discovered a juvenile male lying on the sidewalk suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and laying on top of a bicycle.

Additional St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office and Fort Pierce Police Department personnel responded and quickly established a perimeter around the area. The coordinated response resulted in all three juvenile suspects being located and taken into custody within and two weapons recovered in a short period of time. One suspect was apprehended by St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office K-9, while another was discovered hiding inside a residential recycling container nearby.

Ultimately, a 16-year-old black male was arrested and charged him with Attempted Homicide, Tampering with Evidence and Unlawful Carry of a Firearm by a Person Under 18-years-old and he was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice without incident.

As of this morning, the 16-year-old victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital. This investigation remains active and ongoing.
