Florida State Parks Update
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Department of Environmental Protection announces that at the direction of Governor DeSantis and to successfully uphold CDC guidance to maximize social distancing and avoid gatherings larger than 10 people, DEP will close all Florida State Parks to the public effective Monday, March 23.

DEP has taken many measures to continue providing resource recreation at our State Parks during this time, such as limiting operating hours and reducing visitor capacity at parks with high visitation. Unfortunately, this has not resulted in the reductions needed to best protect public health and safety as Florida continues to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

We appreciate the public’s cooperation and understanding as we work to prioritize the welfare of our communities and staff. We look forward to welcoming you again to our award winning state parks as soon as possible.

As always, we are committed to providing updates to the public. For continuous updates, follow Florida State Parks on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. For additional information on Florida State Parks, please contact 850-245-2157.

YES, WE’RE OPEN!
We are in the business of serving people and assisting them to experience our natural and cultural environments. Like so many of you, we have spent the last several days and weeks learning about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and how it is impacting our world. We wanted to reach out and let all our visitors know that we have implemented extra safety precautions to help you have a safe and enjoyable experience.
We are fortunate that our outdoor activities such as Horseback and Carriage rides, Canoe, Kayak, Bicycle and other recreational equipment rentals are outdoor activities and helps avoid large indoor gatherings. Our rentals and food service will be offered through outside service windows so you can remain outdoors while we offer you our services.
It is important that we give you as much information as possible about the procedures we follow to clean and operate our properties and maintain a sanitary environment as our employees cannot work from home.
Topmost on our minds is the safety of our employees and our customers, which is why we have taken, among other things, the following preventive measures:
• frequently sanitizing surfaces;
• reinforcing appropriate hygiene amongst our staff;
• following all guidelines recommended by the CDC;
• adhering to travel bans and prohibiting employees from returning to work;
• ascertaining that our vendors and suppliers are engaging in prudent preventive measures; and
• doing all we can to keep our employees abreast of COVID-19 developments.
We are monitoring the CDC and other state and federal agencies to understand the most up-to-the-minute information to ensure the actions we are taking are comprehensive and appropriate. We are prepared to follow instructions in the event the government requests that all facilities close down.
Like most retail and entertainment environments, our National and Florida State Parks allow for the individualized spacing of guests and therefore, as of this time, we have not made the decision to close any of our Equestrian, Canoe and Kayak rental properties. Such a decision would invoke a personal hardship to our employee base as well as you, our customers.
If you have traveled internationally in the past several weeks to one of the countries with warnings or have been in direct contact with someone who tested presumptive positive, please follow the CDC guidelines and do not visit the park until the designated time period has passed.
The bottom line is that we remain acutely vigilant about this outbreak. We will continue to do everything we can to protect our employees and you, while remaining ready to assist our visitors to enjoy the great outdoors of your National and Florida State Parks.

Happy Mother's Day!

04/30/2012

This is Rocket, the one with the blown out knee. We took him in last year, to keep him from going to a not so nice place, and had our vet evaluate him. This was an old injury which shows no sign of pain and he has adapted to it very well, so much so he has been cleared for light riding.
Because of his extremely kind nature we are giving Rocket a light duty job this year. He will be used as our hand-led horseback ride for children under 6 who can not go on the guided horseback rides. Come out starting in June to see Rocket do his stuff.
We love to see horses just not thrown away!
