Residents can now find legal notices published by the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners online. The introduction of the new legal notice website will create an annual savings of approximately $100,000.

During the transition to the website, legal notices will continue to be published in the newspaper through Sept. 30, transitioning to online only on Oct. 1.

The City of Port St. Lucie is using the same site to post its legal notices. Residents can sign up for notifications for both or either of the municipalities. The site is sectioned off, so residents can only view the legal notices posted by the specific municipality using the site.

During the 2022 Florida legislative session, the state updated section 50.0311 of the Florida Statute to allow governmental agencies to publish legal notices on a publicly accessible website instead of in a print newspaper. This legal notice website streamlines public access to legally required notices of bids, public hearings and more, while reducing the advertising costs for local governments.

St. Lucie County’s Public Safety Department, Martin County Emergency Management Agency and Florida Power & Light Company will conduct a quarterly testing of the outdoor warning sirens for the St. Lucie nuclear power plant at noon on Thursday, Sept. 3.

The test will involve a one-minute sounding of all 91 sirens within the 10-mile St. Lucie plant emergency planning zone. Before and after the sirens sound, a message will be broadcast on the sirens' public-address system stating, "This is only a test."

FPL and St. Lucie and Martin counties regularly test the siren system to improve public awareness of its function and ensure its operability.

In the unlikely event of an actual emergency at the St. Lucie plant, the sirens would sound for at least a five-minute period. Official instructions or information would follow on local radio and television.

A familiar neighborhood name will soon have a new home as the St. Lucie County Library System prepares to reopen its branch on Prima Vista Boulevard. The St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners recently approved renaming the former Port St. Lucie Branch Library as the Ravenswood Library.

The new name reflects the branch’s connection to the surrounding Ravenswood neighborhood and nearby landmarks, including Ravenswood Lane, Ravenswood Park and Ravenswood Pool. It gives the library a distinct community identity while preserving a geographic name long associated with the area.

Located at 180 SW Prima Vista Blvd., the branch has served the community for more than 50 years. Originally built in 1974, the library was expanded from 1,400 to 4,400 square feet in 1987. The facility is now undergoing a major renovation and expansion that will increase its footprint to more than 10,000 square feet.

When the Ravenswood Library opens in 2027, residents will enjoy a modern library with approximately 50,000 items, a dedicated program room, two quiet study spaces and a maker space.

Cardboard is recyclable, but a few simple steps can make recycling more efficient for you and your recycling cart.

First, make sure your cardboard is clean and dry. Greasy, dirty or wet cardboard can be difficult to process.

Next, remove packing materials such as Styrofoam and plastic wrap. Bonus points if you bring those materials to our Glades Cut-Off Road location for proper recycling.

Finally, flatten your cardboard and place it in your recycling cart. Avoid overstuffing your cart, as cardboard and other items can become stuck inside when the truck empties it.

Located at 5400 N.E. St. James Drive in Port St. Lucie, the Osprey Trail Run is St. Lucie County’s premier trail race with a beautiful route traversing pine flatwoods, hydric hammock, and floodplain forest for a true adventure that won’t disappoint.

This annual race offers 8K, 25K and walking options with all proceeds benefiting environmental education programs through the Oxbow Eco-Center. While walking and 8K spaces are full, 25K spaces are still available.

Meet a few of the people behind our Culvert Assistance Program.

St. Lucie County’s award-winning Culvert Assistance Program (CAP) has been giving homeowners peace of mind since 2020.

The program assists residents with affordable financing to replace damaged culvert pipes under their driveways. When left unattended, culverts fail causing damage to the driveway above them and impede stormwater drainage; resulting in neighborhood flooding.
