STATEMENT FROM TAX COLLECTOR CHRIS CRAFT REGARDING MAY 11 CLOSURE

Yesterday, I made the call to close our offices early because of the severe weather potential we were monitoring. As it turned out, St. Lucie County got more sunshine than storms - and I know many of you let us know exactly how you felt about that.

All joking aside, I understand the frustration. The decision was mine, and I apologize for the inconvenience it caused. As we always do when we close unexpectedly, we tried to make up for lost time by opening early today to accommodate those who were inconvenienced. We will also review how we make and communicate these decisions going forward.

Thank you for your patience and thank you for holding us accountable.

⚠️ Severe Weather Closure Notice

With severe weather expected to impact our area later this afternoon, St. Lucie County Tax Collector Chris Craft has announced that our offices will close at 2 p.m. today, Monday, May 11.

This decision was made to help ensure the safety of our employees and customers in advance of strong to severe storms that could include damaging winds estimated at 60+ mph, one-inch hail and the possibility of tornadoes between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of our customers and team members is our top priority,” Craft said.

Our offices are expected to reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, May 12, at 9 a.m. Stay safe!

🎉 This past weekend, our team was proud to once again join the celebration of El Día del Niño in Fort Pierce, alongside our community partners.
