The funny thing about championship cowgirls is that they rarely make a big fuss about themselves. Take the Buffalo, South Dakota, cowgirl who quietly rode into the history books in 2021.
Having joined the WPRA in 2020, she wasted little time making her presence known. Just a year later, she captured the WPRA World Championship in breakaway roping and backed it up by winning the National Finals Breakaway Roping average title. In a sport where fractions of a second separate champions from contenders, she proved she could perform when the pressure was greatest.
Of course, no great roper gets there alone. Along the way, she relied on a talented lineup of equine partners, including Hollywood, an 18-year-old sorrel mare; Gotter Dun “Big Enough,” better known as Big Enough, a 14-year-old gelding; and Straight Sneakin Docwood, known simply as Roger. Together, they helped transform years of hard work and preparation into championship gold.
A graduate of Weatherford College in Texas, she represents the modern face of rodeo — talented, dedicated, and deeply connected to both her horses and her roots.
What stands out most isn't necessarily the championship itself. It's how quickly she made it happen. Many cowgirls spend a lifetime chasing a world title. She joined the WPRA in 2020 and was holding the gold buckle a year later.
That's not just success. That's making the most of an opportunity when it arrives.
