🚔 A Message from the Village of Fort Plain Police Department

Scammers don’t care about your age, political views, or financial situation—they target everyone. Our goal with is to educate our community and help prevent residents from becoming victims.

If you believe you or a loved one may be the victim of a scam, don’t be embarrassed. These criminals are professionals who use sophisticated tactics to deceive people every day.

📞 Call the Village of Fort Plain Police Department at (518) 993-3781 before sending money, purchasing gift cards, wiring funds, or providing personal information if something doesn’t feel right. We’d much rather help prevent a scam than investigate one after the money is gone.

Together, through education and awareness, we can help protect our families, friends, and neighbors.

🚧 TRAFFIC ADVISORY – VILLAGE OF FORT PLAIN 🚧

The Village of Fort Plain Police Department is advising motorists to avoid Hancock Street due to an active water main break. Please seek alternate routes and expect delays in the area while emergency crews work to make repairs.

In addition, paving operations continue on Main Street and Reid Street. Motorists should expect lane restrictions, temporary road closures, construction equipment, and workers in the roadway.

Please help keep everyone safe by:

* Slowing down and following posted traffic control signs.
* Obeying directions from police officers and flaggers.
* Allowing extra travel time and using alternate routes whenever possible.
* Watching carefully for construction workers, pedestrians, and emergency personnel.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as these important infrastructure improvements and repairs are completed.

🐻 Community Safety Alert – Possible Bear Sighting 🐻

The Village of Fort Plain Police Department has received a report of a possible bear sighting in the area of Hancock Street and Prospect Hill.

Residents are encouraged to use caution and follow these safety tips:

• Stay alert, especially during the early morning and evening hours.
• Keep children and pets close and do not allow pets to roam unattended.
• Secure garbage cans, bird feeders, and pet food, as these can attract bears.
• Do not approach, feed, or attempt to photograph a bear at close range.
• If you see a bear, give it plenty of space and allow it to leave the area on its own.
• If a bear enters your yard, make noise from a safe location to encourage it to move along. Never corner or provoke it.

If you encounter a bear:
• Remain calm and do not run.
• Slowly back away while keeping the bear in sight.
• Make yourself appear larger and speak in a calm, firm voice.
• If the bear is acting aggressively or poses an immediate threat to public safety, call 911 immediately.

If you observe a bear in the Village, please report the sighting to the Village of Fort Plain Police Department so we can monitor its movements and help keep the community informed.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping keep the Village of Fort Plain safe.

The Village of Fort Plain Police Department would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the first annual Toppers on the Run such a tremendous success.

We would especially like to recognize the Village of Fort Plain Fire Department, Mayor Hanifin, the Canajoharie Fire Department, and the many volunteers whose hard work and dedication helped make this event possible. From assisting with traffic and safety, to organizing, setting up, cleaning up, and supporting participants throughout the day, your efforts played a vital role in the success of this community event.

Events like Toppers on the Run showcase the strength of our community and what can be accomplished when residents, organizations, and volunteers come together for a common purpose. We are grateful to have been a part of such a positive and well-supported event.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and cheered on the runners. We look forward to seeing this great event continue to grow in the years ahead!
