The law enforcement section from the Battalion S-3 continue their ex*****on of the law enforcement academy (LEA) which serves to train and certify military police Soldiers in conducting law enforcement operations on Fort Riley, Kansas. on 27 October 2023, 21 trainees from across the battalion trained on the use of batons, responding to crimes in progress, and responding to domestic violence calls.

Great work by the law enforcement section OIC and NCOIC, 1LT Shannon Koehler and SFC Tamekia Henderson and a big shoutout to the 73rd/523rd MP Detachment for providing profession Military Police Investigators to enhance the training.

The 97th MP Battalion will be hosting its annual Trunk-or-Treat and Haunted Battalion on 28 October from 4:30-6:30pm! There will be two haunted houses (one for younger kids, one for older kids) and trick-or-treating in the Battalion parking lot. There will also be a pet costume contest!

HHD participated in a Staff Ride from 23-24JUN22. The Staff officers and NCOs accompanied the 97th MP BN command team as well as all the subordinate command teams to Kansas City. On 23JUN22 the team received a tour and briefing from the Kansas City Police Department’s Regional Police Academy. The discussion was helpful in identifying best practices and positive training techniques utilized at the academy. The next day the Soldiers visited Fort Leavenworth and received a tour and briefings on the JCRF and the USDB. These two events helped the leaders of the 97th MP BN bond as a team while still broadening their knowledge base of training and Military Police operations.

On 20JUN22, HHD conducted team building training with the Fort Riley Ready Resilient (R2) Team during the Wellness Morning. These professional DA civilians led HHD as they completed tasks that were simple in nature but proved difficult to accomplish without teamwork and communication. Events included moving as a team across the parking lot using only paper squares and no verbal communication, untying knots as a team without letting go of the 550 cord, and passing spinning rings around a circle without letting them fall.
