🌟🌟 NENA community, please help thank your Senators for unanimously supporting the 9-1-1 SAVES Act! 🌟🌟

As NENA was pleased to announce this week, in a historic first, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed S.725 – The Enhancing First Response Act. This bill, offered by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), is the Senate’s version of the 911 SAVES Act and would reclassify 9-1-1 Telecommunicators as part of the “Protective Service” occupation category in the U.S. Government's Standard Occupational Classification System. NENA has long championed this legislation, and we are thrilled to see this momentum.

Over the years, we have encouraged you to call and email your members of Congress and ask them to support the 911 SAVES Act. As important as those emails are, it is now equally important to thank the Senators who have supported this legislation.

Click here to send a thank you letter to your Senators ➡️ https://nena.quorum.us/campaign/140566/

The letter at the link includes suggested language from NENA, as well as space for you to customize your comments, should you so choose.

Next steps on the 911 SAVES Act: NENA will be working with our Congressional champions to get the bill passed in the House. Please watch for upcoming action alerts and updates.

🎉 America’s 9-1-1 professionals are celebrating the U.S. Senate’s action to classify 9-1-1 professionals as public safety, not clerical, personnel.

The Senate on Wednesday approved the Enhancing First Response Act (S.725), a bill supported by NENA: The 9-1-1 Association, which would direct the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to reclassify Public Safety Telecommunicators as a “Protective Service Occupation” in the federal Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system.

Currently, 9-1-1 professionals are classified as “Office and Administrative Support,” a designation that fails to reflect the highly specialized, lifesaving work they perform daily alongside other first responders. This no-cost, bipartisan legislation would correct this outdated classification, ensuring that 9-1-1 professionals receive the respect and recognition they deserve.

“Every day, 9-1-1 professionals are the FIRST first responders in thousands of emergencies,” said NENA CEO John Provenzano. “Reclassifying Public Safety Telecommunicators as Protective Service Occupations is a long-overdue correction that recognizes their indispensable role in public safety.”
