At approximately 1:30 p.m. The Fort Scott Police Communications Center received a call threatening violence at Fort Scott High School. The Fort Scott Police Department, along with the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office, responded immediately. After a thorough search of the school building and the parking lot, no issues were found. During the investigation, we learned that multiple schools across Kansas received similar threats.

Thank you to the public for remaining calm and allowing first responders to stay focused and thank you to the staff at USD 234 for their partnership and cooperation.

We have no reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to our community however, our investigation continues.

Bourbon County is blessed with some amazing dispatchers!

They are a calm voice in stressful situations. They are cordinators for emergency services. They are behind the scenes investigators. They are a helping hand for all who know them.

Above all, they are absolute rock stars!

We can't thank you enough! May this week be a reminder of how much you mean to our agency and our community!

The reporting locations varied between the east and west sides of the city. Officers responded to investigate the reports. Concurrently with the reports of gunfire, reports were also being made of individuals knocking on home doors and windows, but no one being present when the homeowners answered the door. Update: The phone lines are up and running again.

Due to an outage, our administrative phone lines are down. At this time, we do not have an ETA on when they will be back up. The Emergency lines are still operational so you can still call 911 in the event of an emergency. We will provide an update as we learn more information.
