Fort Scott, Kansas is beautiful prairie town steeped in history. Originally a military outpost on the frontier, Fort Scott played a integral role in the settlement of the West and the mayhem of Bleeding Kansas. The Fort Scott National Historic Si

te is free to visitors and boasts many special events—from re-creations to candle-lit tours—throughout the year. The National Cemetery No. 1 is located nearby, and is a must-see for history buffs. There’s story behind every grave; Native Americans, Confederate troops, and Buffalo Soldiers have all found their final resting place at the Cemetery. The brand new Trolley takes visitors to both historic treasures, as well as over town to admire the stunning architecture of our preserved downtown and residential neighborhoods. While Fort Scott is known for its history, we’re hardly living in the past. Stroll Main Street for unique boutiques, exceptional dining options, and the new Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes! Live music fills the Liberty Theatre most weekends and the Ellis Fine Arts Center hosts plays and fun community events all year round. Nature lovers will enjoy fishing the well-stocked lakes or biking the trails of 100 year-old Gunn Park. If you need a place to rest your head, Fort Scott is full of options. Everything from a basic motel to a Victorian bed & breakfast. A restored railroad era hotel and salon might just blow your whistle! So come see us in Fort Scott, where history lives!

What does a getaway in Fort Scott look like?🧳❤️

Just ask this couple who recently won an overnight getaway to Fort Scott! They came down from the Kansas City area and made the most of their time exploring our community.

Their weekend included a stay at the The Courtland Hotel, breakfast at Nu Grille Fort Scott, a ride on the Trolley, a visit to The Artificers, lunch at Cohn's Cafe on Main, a shopping spree to our downtown businesses and boutiques, a chance to explore the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes, and delicious dinner and drinks at Crooner's.

And according to them? They had the “BEST time” and said their trip “could not have been any better.” They also said they’ll be recommending Fort Scott to everyone, especially their family in the Kansas City area. And honestly, that's exactly what we love to hear! 🙌

Come see what makes our town worth the trip! 🌻

A used bookstore is one of the few places where going in “just to browse” is basically a fictional concept. Kansas has plenty of shops that make that promise especially hard to keep.
