Food insecurity is real. We are serving twice today at Sack Lunch and hope you are able to make it while the rain is at bay. Our neighbors and friends Fort Smith First United Methodist Church will be providing free groceries later today at 5:30 p.m. This is a drive through give away and they will serve until supplies run out. Their downtown campus is located at 200 N 15 Street in Fort Smith.

We don’t have a count of how many dads visit Sack Lunch, but we know they come often because they request sack lunch for their children. We thank God for every loving father who shows up to care, protect, and provide for their children! That includes our volunteers, donors and our followers. Happy Father’s Day! 🙏🥰

We ❤️ our volunteers. They help us stock and pick up supplies. They prepare food, serve our visitors, and keep the area clean. They do this for you, our visitors, because they care.

Stop by Sack Lunch for a free to-go sack meal and drink. Check the poster for serving hours. Pet parents: don’t forget to ask for pet food if you’re in need.

Although President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, slavery did not end everywhere. On June 19, 1865, Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order No. 3, declaring slavery was over and people were free.

Juneteenth invites us to remember what was denied and celebrate the deeper meaning of freedom: real choices, dignity, safety, and opportunity. Freedom isn’t only an event in history; it’s something we protect and expand every day, especially for people still held back by poverty or denied opportunity.

Diane Willis and her family recently held a garage sale where her granddaughters hosted a lemonade stand to raise funds for the Sack Lunch Program. 😍 The girls raised $86 from their sales! We are so proud of them and what a lovely way to involve children in helping their community.❤️👧🏻. Diane and other members of Saint Boniface Catholic Church / Iglesia Católica San Bonifacio volunteer with the Sack Lunch Program every Thursday morning. We are grateful for their support and kindness. Thank you, Diane for the picture!

Arkansas ranks #1 in the nation for hunger.
And most people don't know that when SNAP participation declines, access to school meals is also reduced. 👶🧒🏽👧
Here's how it works: In Arkansas, SNAP enrollment is what automatically qualifies a child for free school meals, no application needed. When a family loses SNAP, that qualification disappears.
Schools in high-poverty areas use a measure called the Identified Student Percentage (ISP) to qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which lets them feed every child for free. When SNAP rolls fall, ISPs fall too.
When ISP drops below 25%, schools lose that protection entirely.
- 1 in 4 Arkansas children is already food insecure.
- Over 2.5 million people have lost SNAP benefits nationally since H.R.1 passed.
- Arkansas families who lose SNAP also lose Summer EBT grocery cards.
- Arkansas has not budgeted to cover the mandatory SNAP administrative cost match of $20-25M

The heat and humidity are here‼️ We know Arkansas summers can reach triple digits! 🥵 We are grateful for our outside water station, but during high temperatures the water turns lukewarm. Cold bottled water is very helpful during summer months. We appreciate your donations.
