At first glance, someone might assume these two people are unhoused individuals sitting on a sidewalk. In reality, they are housed residents waiting for Fort Smith Transit after visiting the Sack Lunch Program.

It is easy to make assumptions about people based on appearances. While we know that everyone who visits our serving window is facing some type of hardship, we do not know how deep or complex that struggle may be.

Our visitors often tell us how much they appreciate not only the food, but also being greeted with warmth and kindness. That speaks to the power of compassion, empathy, and choosing not to judge someone before knowing their story.❤️

We are glad to be a resource for people living on fixed incomes. We are aware they may run short of food while waiting for their next payment. 🙏. We know visitors who are unhoused appreciate our services, but we also understand many prefer to eat outside the confines of buildings and away from crowds. ❤️ Finally, we are mindful of working individuals whose paychecks may not stretch far enough, and those facing unexpected financial crises. 😔

No matter the circumstances, we are always happy to serve. Our volunteers, like Ms Dorothy Love, are kind, quick and compassionate. Stop by Sack Lunch during our serving hours. You may request up to three sack meals per visit, and you are welcome to stop by during both serving times during the weekday. Pet parents may request pet food.

During the weekday hours of 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., many people are still asleep, scrolling through social media, or enjoying their first cup of coffee. Between 11:30 a.m. and noon, others may be shopping, watching television, enjoying another cup of coffee, or simply going about their day.

How you spend your time is up to you, and we are grateful for the volunteers who choose to come to Sack Lunch before, during, and after our serving hours. They prepare and serve meals, clean up, stock supplies for the next serving team, pick up donations, and give to support the program.
Most importantly, they do all of this for anyone who comes to our serving window, regardless of what brought them there. 🧍👨🧒🏽🧍‍♀️❤️

Human beings thrive on having meaning and purpose in their lives. We are thankful for every volunteer who gives their time, energy, and heart to Sack Lunch. We are also glad to serve anyone facing food insecurity. Stop by 317 North F Street during our serving hours.

Water can be a triggering word for many in our community. 💧💧Think water slides, water bills, water transmission line, and water leaks. 😬

All kidding aside, we are grateful to everyone who has donated bottled water to the Sack Lunch Program, as well as to our friends at Next Step Homeless Services and Hope Campus.

The heat has been relentless this week. Although we serve meals quickly at Sack Lunch, it takes only minutes for people who are unhoused or working outdoors to be adversely affected.

Please continue to keep our neighbors in mind by donating bottled water or sharing available resources. Thank you for helping us keep our community hydrated and safer during these dangerously hot days.
