Hiya, folks!

I've decided to get this book club started again. We'll be doing one book every other month. Rather than limiting ourselves to a particular genre, we're going to branch out a bit, but will still choose geekier books before anything else.

Please invite some others to join up!

Just finished reading our May book and it was incredible! I hope you all join us for a discussion on The Circle.

Happy New Year, Geeks! I'm super excited to see you all again. We have two weeks before our first meetup of the year, so if you haven't started on The Enchanted yet, now is your chance!

~*~*~* CHANGES FOR 2017 ~*~*~*~

Hello, friends! The GBC has existed here in Ft Smith for one year and that's amazing! After a year, I've learned what is and isn't working and in 2017 I've decided we're going to make a few changes.

First, GBC will no longer be limited by genre. While our members LOVE the sci-fi, fantasy, and spec fic genres, there are limited number of good, stand alone, books for us to enjoy. So, we are expanding our selection pool, but we will still favor those three genres if books present themselves.

Second, book clubs will now strictly be held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. The next event is set for January 19th. This will give people more certainty about when events are going to be held. Additional events like game nights or movies will be scheduled as needed, but book club discussions are always going to be the 3rd Thursday of the month.

Third, GBC will be starting an e-mail list. Prior to all events, I will be sending out the questions we'll be using for the discussions. It is my hope that these questions help our members read the selection more intentionally and lead to better conversations.

Thanks for being a part of GBC! Happy Reading!

Hey everyone! Happy Holidays to all!

The GBC is going to take a break in December and come back refreshed in 2017. There will be some changes as well, but I think it'll give us more opportunities to find books we can love.

I hope you all have a great end of the year!

Hello, geeks!

We are making a few changes, mostly with how we schedule events.

Starting this month, we will be doing 1 book and 1 social event. October got 2 books because we wanted to squeeze one in. However, we know that the holidays are rapidly approaching which means people will have less time to get together.

So! Rather than reading 2 books a month, we're going to read one book a month and have a social event.

This month we will be reading The Ballad of Black Tom and meeting to discuss this on Friday, October 28th at Sweet Bay Coffee near Creekmore Park. It's a shorter book, but full of magic which is perfect for Halloween.

We will also be meeting THIS FRIDAY, October 14th, at Core Brewing Company to play Cards Against Humanity. Due to the meeting place, this is a 21+ event.

I will be adjusting our scheduled events shortly, so keep an eye out for new times and locations.

We're looking forward to see everyone tonight at Chapters on Main at 7 o'clock to discussion A Monster Calls!

Tell us your favorite places in the River Valley. We are looking to add new locations to our book club.

The business will need to be locally owned and quiet. It will need to be open in the evenings and have food/drink available. Also, the establishment must allow a group of 3-10 people to meet and chat for two hours or so.

Hello, friends! Welcome to The Geekiest Book Club! The GBC was originally founded on meetup.com in December of 2015, but has since moved over to Facebook to (hopefully) reach a larger audience of people.

We have discussion on fantasy, speculative fiction, and science fiction books about twice a month. Books are chosen by our founder, Katy. However, any member is welcome to suggest a book so long as it falls into our approved categories.

Basically, we're not going to be reading Jodi Picoult or Nicholas Sparks in this group. We have standards.

Please check out our upcoming events and happy reading!

Have you had a chance to read any of these?

Have you had a chance to read any of these?

The end of 2015 marks the completion of this blog's first year of existence, and what a year to start with: we can't remember the last 12-month period that gave us such a strong run of new science fiction and fantasy books, spanning every subgenre on the shelves. Below, we've selected
