On Oct. 20, 2017, the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division converted to 2nd Armor Brigade Combat Team. During the ceremony, the colors of 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment were cased, and the battalion re-flagged to 2nd Battalion, 69th Armored Regiment.
Comments from Panther 6:
"It has been my distinct pleasure and honor to command the Battle Boars of the historic 1-30th Infantry Regiment. Consistent with the Army's decision to add another Armored Brigade Combat Team, the battalion will convert from a light infantry battalion to an armored combined arms battalion (with two tank companies and one mechanized infantry company). Already, we have cased the colors of 1-30th Infantry and unfurled those of 2nd Battalion 69th Armored Regiment. Over the past 15 months the Officers, NCOs, and Soldiers have proudly upheld the honor and tradition of excellence of 1-30th IN and will do the same with 2-69 AR. Since the world remains a dangerous place and the Army remains a force for good in the world, it is likely at some point in the future that the Army will again return 1-30th IN to service as an active battalion. For now, family and friends of the battalion can remain informed through this page until the 2-69 AR page is fully operational."
