You spot a rattlesnake while out at the Big Bend, Cottonwood or Cold Brook Projects...What should you do?

A. Challenge it to a dance battle to establish dominance
B. Slowly back away and give it plenty of space
C. Offer it a hot dog and ask what campsite they've reserved
D. Try to pet the "danger noodle" because it looks lonely

A life jacket can’t save your life if it’s floating on top of the water and you’re sinking to the bottom. Having a life jacket on your boat, even if it’s “readily accessible,” is not good enough. so you can enjoy boating another day.

As the weather warms up, snakes are becoming more active around the Big Bend, Cold Brook, and Cottonwood projects and recreation areas. While rattlesnakes play an important role in the environment, we want everyone to stay safe while enjoying our projects.

Rattlesnake safety tips:
1) Watch where you step, sit, and place your hands - especially around rocks, tall grass, wood piles and brushy areas
2) Wear closed-toe shoes or boots when hiking or exploring
3) Stay on marked trails and avoid reaching into places you can't clearly see
4) Keep pets close and supervised
5) If you see a rattlesnake, give it space and slowly back away - never try to touch, move, or scare it.
6) Listen for the rattle, but remember - not all rattlesnakes rattle before striking.

Have you ever spotted a rattlesnake while out enjoying our Big Bend, Cold Brook or Cottonwood Projects? Tell us your story in the comments below.

Who says water safety can’t be stylish?

This month, Big Bend employees are trading hard hats for the runway as they strut their stuff to showcase one of the season’s hottest must-haves… LIFEJACKETS! 🛟

From float coats to fishing vests and everything in between, our team is proving that safety never goes out of style.

Whether you’re boating, fishing, paddling, or just enjoying time near the water, wearing a properly fitted lifejacket is always the best look.
