Shakia Mccrary for Peach County BOE - At Large Your Peach County Board of Education at Large Candidate.

When you are truly passionate about something, there are nights when you stay awake, frustrated and even brought to tears by the lack of progress. But those moments are not signs of defeat, they are fuel for action and determination.

Tonight is one of those nights. I am up researching, strategizing, and learning new ways to help move this district forward and better serve our students and families.

I will not be silent. I will not stop advocating. I will not give up on the children in our community. Every student deserves access to the same high-quality education, opportunities, and resources as students in every other school district across Georgia. I remain committed to fighting for the changes necessary to ensure our children have every opportunity to succeed.

8:30am is no better than 1:00pm. I get it you can NEVER find the perfect time for everyone. So if you truly want community input, why not make it accessible for everyone? Use that YouTube channel! Those who can attend please attend!

Listen… from now until November, it’s about comfortable shoes, determination, fish plates, Gatorades, and giving God the glory while trying to make it across Peach County together. 😂🖤💛

Campaign season is exciting, but it definitely takes community. Between signs, flyers, meetings, phone calls, community events, and knocking on doors, we’re looking for:

🖤 20 committed volunteers willing to canvass and knock on doors
💛 People willing to help behind the scenes
🖤 Supporters willing to donate whatever they genuinely can …..whether it’s $5, $10, $25, or simply sharing a post and encouraging the campaign along the way.

Beginning in mid June , we’ll start campaign meetings, and we’re asking volunteers to commit to:
✔ TWO meetings a month
✔ TWO weekends canvassing
✔ At least TWO hours helping us push toward November
And trust me… we gone make this fun. 😂

Every conversation matters.
Every repost matters.
Every donation matters.
Every door knocked matters.

It brings me great joy to know that the work I do for the community—without compensation—is recognized and appreciated by the people I serve. I am grateful that so many trust me enough to share their concerns and allow me to assist them in navigating challenges within our school system.

At the same time, it is very telling when community members feel more comfortable turning to advocates for support rather than the individuals who are elected and paid to address these issues directly. Families and community members have voiced their concerns repeatedly, yet many feel that meaningful change has still not taken place. That alone speaks volumes about the level of trust and confidence that currently exists within the system.

With that being said, I’ll see you at the polls in November right? You trust me, so I’m trusting that you will go vote!

Every vote matters, and last night was living proof. WE won by 31 votes.

It means:
If a handful of people had stayed home, the outcome would be different. Conversations you had with friends and neighbors moved real numbers. The time you took standing in line, double checking your ballot, decided a community’s direction.

Elections aren’t abstract. They’re decided by people like you showing up. Your vote wasn’t symbolic; it was decisive.

Take this as a call to action:
WE need you in November!!
Help one more person register.
Offer a ride.
Share deadlines and polling info.
Stay engaged: show up to meetings, speak up on issues, and hold us accountable.

Thirty-one votes changed this race. Next time, it could be one. Your voice is powerful. Use it, and bring someone with you.

Early voting ends tomorrow, and I encourage everyone to get out and vote. If you plan to participate in this primary election, please request a Democratic ballot so you can support my campaign and help us make it through Election Day on Tuesday, May 19th.

After participating in two candidate forums this week, it has become increasingly clear to me that some of the currently seated board members remain focused primarily on improving the appearance of school infrastructure in an effort to compete with surrounding counties like Houston and Bibb. While facilities are important, we must also recognize the financial realities our county faces and prioritize accordingly.

More importantly, I believe our focus must remain on what matters most: the quality of our children’s education and the safety of our schools.
Throughout this week, community members repeatedly raised concerns about school safety. Unfortunately, the responses given were often that “there simply isn’t enough money right now,” or responsibility was redirected solely to the superintendent and the budget process. However, the board ultimately has the responsibility to review and approve that budget, and accountability starts there.

The world has changed, and the challenges facing our schools have changed with it. Continuing to approach these issues with outdated thinking will not move our district forward. Our students, teachers, and families deserve leadership that is willing to adapt, prioritize safety, and make decisions that put children first.

I’m asking for your support because I believe we can bring a more balanced, forward-thinking approach to our schools and our community.
