Strong thunderstorms will impact portions of southeastern Bibb, north central Pulaski, southwestern Twiggs, west central Bleckley, northeastern Peach and Houston Counties through 630 PM EDT
Special Weather Statement issued June 17 at 6:04PM EDT by NWS Peachtree City GA
At 603 PM EDT, a line of strong thunderstorms was along a line
extending from Byron to near Houston Lake to Grove Park, and moving
northeast at 45 mph.

HAZARD...Up to 40 mph wind, frequent cloud to ground lightning and
heavy rain.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
light, unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.

Locations impacted include...
Macon, Perry, Warner Robins, Centerville, Byron, Robins AFB,
Hayneville, Robins Air Force Base, Houston Lake, Elko, Grove Park,
Ocmulgee Public Fishing Area, Powerville, Kathleen, Sand Bed,
Bullard, Rutland, Grovania, Magnolia, and Lakewood.
People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear
thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Motorists
should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of control due to
hydroplaning.

Heavy rainfall and strong to severe thunderstorms are expected Thursday and Friday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur move into the state. Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding, especially late Thursday into Friday morning.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central,
northeast, northwest, and west central Georgia, including the
following areas, in central Georgia, Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley,
Butts, Crawford, Crisp, Dooly, Houston, Jasper, Jones, Monroe,
Peach, Pulaski, Putnam, Twiggs and Wilkinson. In east central
Georgia, Greene, Hancock and Washington. In north central Georgia,
Barrow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth,
Gwinnett, Henry, Morgan, Newton, North Fulton, Rockdale, South
Fulton and Walton. In northeast Georgia, Oconee. In northwest
Georgia, Bartow, Carroll, Haralson, Paulding and Polk. In west
central Georgia, Chattahoochee, Coweta, Harris, Heard, Lamar,
Macon, Marion, Meriwether, Muscogee, Pike, Schley, Spalding,

* WHEN...From Thursday morning through late Friday night.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Multiple rounds of rainfall are expected beginning Thursday
morning through Friday evening. A significantly moist tropical
environment across GA will support high rain rates and increased
chances for flash flooding. Widespread rainfall of 2 to 4 inches
will be possible with locally higher amounts of 5 inches or more.
Urban areas, and areas with poor drainage, will be the most
susceptible to flash flooding.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

Excessive rainfall may produce locally considerable flash flooding over parts of the northwestern Gulf Coast, lower Mississippi River Valley, and Deep South through Thursday. Potential Tropical Cyclone One is forecast to become a tropical storm (Arthur) as it moves along or just off the northwestern...

At 700 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was near Lee Pope, or near Fort
Valley, moving east at 35 mph.

HAZARD...40 to 50 mph wind, frequent cloud to ground lightning and
heavy rain.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
light, unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.

Flint Energies Foundation awards Peach County Emergency Management $5,000

The Flint Energies Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to Peach County Emergency Management to support emergency shelter operations throughout Peach County and surrounding areas.

Represented by Ryan Roberts, Peach County Emergency Management submitted a request for funding to purchase seven portable air conditioning units for use in emergency shelters. The portable units will help improve shelter conditions during emergencies and provide additional comfort and support for residents seeking refuge during severe weather events and other emergency situations.

“This equipment will help ensure shelters are better prepared to serve residents during emergencies and periods of extreme weather,” Roberts noted. “Having portable cooling units available will strengthen emergency response efforts for Peach County and neighboring communities.”

The Flint Energies Foundation provides grants to local non-profits such as this one using money donated by Flint Energies Consumer-members through Operation Round Up®. The electric cooperative’s Members contribute $175,000 annually to the Flint Energies Foundation, which supports worthy causes in the 17 counties it serves. Operation Round Up is a way for participating Members to support multiple charitable organizations by simply allowing Flint Energies to round up their bills to the nearest dollar. Donations to Operation Round Up, which average only about $6 per year per member, are tax deductible. About 40% of Flint’s Membership participates in Operation Round Up, but that percentage continues to decline.
