Yesterday was a Saturday well spent supporting the 18th Annual Back-to-School Smash hosted by Striving for Perfection alongside the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation, our Transportation Department, School Board members, and school representatives!

We were proud to assist families with free and reduced-price meal applications, student registration, volunteer opportunities, school bus route information, Title I programs, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways. Through our partnership with St. Simon on the Sound, we also distributed 100 hygiene kits, along with 100 school supply kits to local students.

A special thank you to School Board Members Parker Destin and Brett Hinely for serving more than 300 snow cones and keeping smiles on students' faces throughout the day!

We also appreciate our Transportation Department for bringing a school bus to the event, helping families access route information, and sharing employment opportunities for those interested in becoming future bus drivers.

Most importantly, thank you to Striving for Perfection for hosting this impactful event and for your continued commitment to supporting children and families in our community. Your dedication makes a lasting difference, and we are grateful to be part of this effort each year.

Join the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation, Okaloosa County School District, and The Salvation Army as we work together to ensure local students have the supplies they need for a successful school year!

Get an early start on giving!
📍 Origin Bank in Fort Walton Beach (212 Racetrack Road) will have a school bus on site tomorrow, Friday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., collecting school supply donations. Stop by and help us fill the bus before the main event!

Then, join us for Stuff the Bus on Saturday, August 1, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Walmart locations in Crestview, Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and Niceville.

While you shop during Florida's tax-free month, consider picking up a few extra school supplies to donate. Every notebook, backpack, folder, and box of crayons helps set local students up for success!

We truly value our partnership with St. Simon’s on the Sound and are continually inspired by the impact they make in our community each and every day. Their commitment to serving others sets a standard we should all strive for—our community is stronger because of organizations like theirs.

The City of Fort Walton Beach recognized the 80th anniversary of St. Simon's on the Sound Episcopal Church with the following proclamation, read by Mayor Nic Allegretto during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting:

The City of Fort Walton Beach proudly recognizes the 80th Anniversary of St. Simon's on-the-Sound Episcopal Church, which has faithfully served our community since its founding in June 1946.

Established on land generously donated by Liza Jackson, the church has been a cornerstone of faith, fellowship, and service for eight decades.

Throughout its history, St. Simon's has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to helping others through support of local schools, advocacy for children in foster care, partnerships with organizations such as Children in Crisis, Inc. Florida, Sharing & Caring of Okaloosa County, Inc., and the Okaloosa County Public Schools Foundation, and programs that provide food and essential resources to families and students in need.

Through its ministry, volunteerism, and charitable outreach, the church has enriched the lives of countless residents and helped strengthen the fabric of our community.

Therefore, I am honored to proclaim a celebration in recognition of the 80th Anniversary of St. Simon's on the Sound Episcopal Church in the City of Fort Walton Beach and extend our sincere gratitude for eighty years of faithful service, fellowship, and community leadership.

We thank St. Simons on the Sound Church and its members for eight decades of service to their community and congratulate them on this anniversary.

Special thanks to Netta Holley and Kelley Fuller, who attended Tuesday night’s meeting to accept the proclamation on behalf of St. Simon's on the Sound Episcopal Church.
