PSA and educational moment..

As the City crews continue to work on getting all of the storm debris removed, we want to remind everyone to make sure the piles of debris do not block access to a Fire hydrant.

When we pull hose lines off for a Structure Fire, they flow over 150 gallons per minute per line and our apparatus carry 750 gallons of water. So technically we could need a hydrant within 5 or so minutes. If we need to make access to a water source, spending several minutes to get to the hydrant is not an ideal situation.

Please keep atleast a 3ft radius clear around the hydrants. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].

This morning, Fort Walton Beach Firefighters responded to the report of a residential structure fire.

​Battalion 6 arrived on scene to find smoke showing from the home.
Truck 6 immediately initiated a primary search for potential occupants while simultaneously locating the fire. T6 crew successfully kept the fire from spreading using a water can until Engine 6 arrived to completely extinguish it.

​Thanks to our mutual aid partners OkaloosaIslandFirefighters and Ocean City Wright FC District for assisting on scene, as well as OCEMS for providing medical support.

​We are incredibly grateful to report that no injuries were sustained during this incident. Great job to all crews involved!

📌📌UPDATE: CLEANUP CANCELED due to expected high wind conditions.

We Need Your Help!

Hurricane Isaias left plenty of storm debris across all of our city parks and we’re asking our community to help us clean it up!

Our first clean-up day will be at Ferry Park from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 17. Join us as we work together to clear small branches and other tree debris from the park grounds.

🕗 When: Saturday, Oct. 17, at 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
📍 Where: Ferry Park (Ferry Road entrance)

We’ll have some equipment available, but if you have a rake and cardboard boxes to help carry debris, please bring them along!

We’ll start with a brief meeting at 8 a.m. before splitting into four groups to tackle different areas of the park.

Let’s work together to get Ferry Park looking its best again! We hope to see you there!

STORM DEBRIS REMOVAL BEGINS TODAY

The City of Fort Walton Beach has contracted with DRC Emergency Services to clean up storm debris from residential neighborhoods, beginning today (Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026).

The City is able to provide this service to residential sanitation customers because the cost is reimbursable by FEMA.

Commercial businesses and large multi-residential complexes are not eligible for this program.

Commercial businesses and large multi-residential complexes can use a hauler of their choosing, or contact the City’s Solid Waste Division at 850-833-9655 to arrange a special pickup at current city rates plus dumping fees.

📌📌📌Guidelines for residential storm debris pickup📌📌📌

We accept:
1. VEGETATIVE DEBRIS (trees, limbs, shrubs, etc)
2. STORM-RELATED CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS (fences, docks, carpet, furniture, etc)

✅Please use separate piles for each (they’re disposed of differently)
✅Please limit the length of debris to 8-10 feet
✅Pile storm debris on the curbside, well away from hydrants, mailboxes, or above-ground utility boxes.
✅Pile debris loose: Contractor cannot pick up bagged items
✅No hazardous waste, tires, electronics, etc.

You do not need to schedule a storm debris pickup for your residence. Simply place it at the curb, and crews will remove it as they work through their routes.

DRC will make 2-3 passes through neighborhoods over the next two to three weeks to ensure that all the debris is collected.

During this time, the city’s regular yard waste collection service will be suspended.

PLEASE NOTE: The City is contracting with DRC for this cleanup service. No DRC employee or subcontractor will ask you for payment.

Crews are expected to begin work mid-week. To help facilitate the cleanup process, we have the following guidelines.

✅We accept clean vegetative debris (trees, limbs, etc), and storm-related construction debris (fences, docks, etc) 📌PLEASE USE SEPARATE PILES FOR EACH📌
✅Pile storm debris on the curbside, well away from hydrants, mailboxes, or above-ground utility boxes.
✅Pile debris loose; DO NOT PUT DEBRIS IN BAGS
✅No hazardous waste or non-organic material

You do not need to schedule a storm debris pickup. Simply place it at the curb and crews will remove it as they work through their routes.

As crews begin to restore power and clear roadways, please keep the following in mind:

⚫Please keep your space and stay out of the way as emergency responders complete their work.
⚫Do not play in puddles near downed power lines.
⚫Do not drive over, walk over, or touch downed power lines
⚫Trees are heavy and may not fall the way you want.
⚫Do not cut trees that are resting on power lines.

City of Fort Walton Beach crews are out assessing storm damage and removing trees blocking major roadways. We will continue to work through the weekend to clean up debris and make necessary repairs.

ALL City of Fort Walton Beach offices, facilities will remain closed until Monday at the earliest.

CITY PARKS: ALL City parks are closed. There are many downed trees and some downed power lines we are working to repair. Conditions are unsafe. We DO NOT need volunteers at this time. We will notify you as soon as parks are safe to reopen.
