New jackshaft bearings are in and everything seems to be running straight, fast and quiet.

Sometimes no matter how gentle we try to be to minimize damage it just doesn’t get the job done. In those cases we break out the Oxylance. This thing will cut through pretty much anything in its path. We have to use aluminized Kevlar PPE to protect ourselves from slag that is so hot it runs like water and can burn through boots and clothing.

The driver of this police car informed us of a noise coming from the engine during their shift. We listened to the noise and believed it to be a lifter going bad. Our tech tore the engine down and when we pulled the lifters found that a lifter for cylinder number 3 had begun to fail. Unfortunately it had also begun to wear down the camshaft lobe. A new camshaft and lifters are being installed along with other parts that had to come off during the repair. This car should be back on the road in no time!

While we haven't posted a bunch lately, our team has been busy keeping our fleet serviced and inspected. These 2 jobs we wanted to highlight. First we have our sweeper in for its service before it's busy time. This machine has a main engine for the truck and a pony motor to run the fan that creates the suction for the sweeper. Along with the engines being service we also did the transmission service.
The second was an emergency call that came in while our crews were out paving. The roller they were using had begun leaking hydraulic oil. We deployed our trailer which allowed us to create a hose on site.

On Friday we recieved a call that trash truck #6 had a battery light come on and the truck had shut off during it's route. We ran out to see what was going on and quickly found that the alternator had stopped working. We were able to jump the truck and get it into a parking lot and off the street. A quick trip back to the shop to grab our service trailer, a new alternator and some extra tools and we were able to replace it out in the parking lot. The truck was back on the road in less then 2 hours.

One big advantage to our much larger shop is the ability to maintain our tub grinder inside. After about 3-4 years of use, the rods and hammers were in need of replacment. This job is very labor intensive due to using a large sledge hammer to rattle the hammers loose in order to pull the rods out. Each row of hammers has 2 rods that keep them attached to the drum. A total of 20 hammers and 8 rods were replaced.
