If you care, leave it there! Too often, fawns are kidnapped from their mothers, who park them in seemingly weird places during the day. They come back for their kiddos around dusk, so seeing one alone during the day is completely normal!

You should only intervene if:

- the baby is covered in fly strike (looks lile grains of rice), maggots, or blood from wounds
- the fawn is injured in some way or is in an unsafe location
- a series of other symtoms leads you to believe it is truly orphaned (found next to deceased mother, is dehydrated, is following people and crying for hours)
- a wildlife rehabber told you to based on the information you provided

Thank you for caring and avoiding fawn-napping! ❀️

πŸ₯° THANK YOU to everyone who donated for Molly the swan's wing amputation surgery! Doesn't she look GORGEOUS without that wing weighing her down!?!?

Perhaps the moral of the story is that if something is dragging you down and holding you back, you just need to cut it off. πŸͺ½

This beautiful lady is going to be living with another one of our previous swan wing amputees named Dale from earlier this year. Let's hope it's a perfect match! ❀️

Release day for baby bunnies! πŸ‡πŸ‡πŸ‡

One was caught by a dog and had its tail fur completely pulled off of the bone, which had to be insanely painful. After a good round of pain meds, antobiotics, and a bit of time, the tail has healed over and new fur growth can begin.

The other two were caught by cats and had various wounds from that. Cat bites can be very deadly to wildlife, so giving them an antibiotic ASAP usually determines the outcome.

Can you guess the top 3 reasons we get baby bunnies into rehab (hint: it's not because they are orphans)?

The main culprints are:
1. Dogs
2. Cats
3. Lawnmowers

All three are mostly preventable! Before you mow, take a quick walk around your yard and check for bunny nests. You'll find a bit of an indent filled with dead grass and fur. If you find one, protect the nest with a laundry basket, pallet, or whatever you have on hand.

This photo represents hope.

A painted turtle was on her way across the road to find the perfect nest spot to lay her eggs, but she didn't make it across in one piece, which is how she ended up here.

When we get a turtle in that cannot be saved, we ALWAYS check for eggs. This girl had nearly 15 eggs inside of her, but only 9 were mostly developed and able to be harvested. She had to be euthanized due to the extent of her injuries, but her legacy through her offspring may not have ended.

We'll bury them just like she would have done and keep an eye on the nest. In about 60-80 days we'll check back and see if any have hatched. This story (car hits turtle, turtle is euthanized) may be over... but it might not be. Only time will tell. ❀️

It's mostly butt pics this time 🀷. When we do an opossum release, sometimes they come out slowly and explore, other times they shoot out of the carriers like cannonballs and we're lucky to catch proof they were even here.

This group included some very special opossums:

πŸ¦ͺ Pearl, who was found emaciated and struggling because of an intense worm infestation. Now she's twice that size and ready to thrive.

🌹 Rose, who had climbed up onto a bird feeder to give up on life after trauma took her eyeball. Thankfully, opossums rely more on their sense of smell than their sight, and her remaining eye is great.

πŸͺΌ Jelly, a momma opossum who was admitted to another rehab center with an infected arm and missing eyeball. She lost most of her joeys, but Jelly and her single Bean were transferred to us for further care awhile back. While it would have been awesome to get a picture of Bean with his momma, Jelly wasn't haven't it, and we weren't going to stress her out for a cool photo. Jelly will teach Bean all the things opossums need to know to survive, and that knowledge will have to be good enough for us.

Good luck, sweet ladies and baby Bean! πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ

Molly the swan needs her wing amputated. After being hit by a car, she spent a LONG time struggling to survive. Her wing dragged behind her, bleeding everywhere she went. She laid on land, starving, in too much pain to forage for food.

Now she has the chance to have surgery, to heal, and eventually to thrive - but we need your help getting there. The vet will do the surgery for $350 (an absolute steal if you've ever had surgery done by a vet). Will anyone step forward to sponsor her surgery and give her a second chance at life?

Earlier this year, a swan named Dale was in the same position - he was hit by a car and had his wing amputated - and now he lives on a private pond in southern Indiana. Every day, buses of school children drive by his pond and those kids get to see Dale. If Molly can have this surgery and heal, she'll be headed south to be his new mate. Two swans, both missing a wing, would be a beautiful match. Imagine the joy kids would have watching two disabled swans living their best lives together? Let's make this happen!

Can we get $350 donated from this post?

Help us find 8 missing ducklings! Whoever picked up the 8 ducklings at the intersection of Huguenard Road and Transportation this evening (Fort Wayne), we need to talk to you. You didn't know it, but it's actually illegal for you to raise them. Mallards are federally protected and need to be taken to a federally certified waterfowl rehabber. Can you please text us so we can get these babies? 260-223-0852

She was hit by train 2 months ago, and look at her now. When Hailey the opossum momma arrived, she looked defeated: her tail was shredded, the open wounds on her face were full of mud, and the joeys in her pouch were far too young to survive without her. We needed her to fight to stay with us, and she did.

Hailey lost 4 of her joeys and most of her tail to the trauma from the train, but the other 9 are going strong, and now she has an extra 5 foster babies too.

She is a survivor, a fighter, and an amazing mother. ❀️

Your donations are what makes this care possible, so thank you so much for supporting us and paying for Hailey's medical care, food, and enclosure. Hailey and her 14 joeys are just 1 of almost 30 opossum enclosures currently in use here at Werling Wildlife, so every dollar donated counts. βœŒοΈβ€οΈπŸ€

🚨 LAST CHANCE to donate for today's donation match! 🚨

We currently have over a hundred baby opossums, called joeys, in our care. Most came to us after their mom was hit by a car and they were left orphaned. We give them the space and time needed to become big, independent babies ready to go back into the wild.

With today's donation match, you are funding the care of hundreds of animals like this opossum joey AND your impact will be DOUBLED because Jessica is matching your donations with one of her own. Will you help us provide a safe haven, a place for baby animals to grow and learn and thrive?
