Ghost your ex, not your library! 👻

Our Día de los Mu***os Community Ofrenda is now open for viewing in the Great Hall at the Main Library!

In honor of Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead), community members shared photos to remember and celebrate loved ones who have passed away. Each photo represents a memory that lives on! ❤️

While customs and timelines for Día de los Mu***os vary by region and tradition, ACPL’s Community Ofrenda will be on display through November 3 and will reflect the following cultural traditions:

October 27: The ofrenda is set up.
Honors deceased pets.

October 28: The first candle is lit, and a white flower is placed.
Honors souls who passed away tragically or suddenly in an accident.

October 29: The second candle is lit, and a glass of water is placed.
Honors souls who departed due to drowning.

October 30: Third candle is lit, water and pan de mu**to is placed.
Honors lost, lonely, or forgotten souls. Those who do not have anyone honoring them.

October 31: Fourth candle is lit, water, fruits, and sweets is placed.
The ofrenda is prepared for All Saints’ Day. This day may also honor beloved ancestors.

November 1: Incense and candles are lit. Toys, food, and keepsakes are placed.
All Saints’ Day - Honors those who depart as children or angelitos.

November 2: One more candle is lit.
All Souls’ Day - Honors all other deceased adults.

November 3: The ofrenda is taken down. This is the final day of remembrance.

We invite you to visit our Community Ofrenda in the Main Library’s Great Hall and experience this special place for reflection, remembrance, and connection.
