DeKalb County Pink Out President Melissa Eshbach Shares Story of Hope at Cancer Services Tribute Dinner

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Melissa Eshbach, President of DeKalb County Pink Out, shared her personal breast cancer story Wednesday evening during the 2026 Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana Tribute Dinner, an event honoring individuals and families whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Eshbach’s story centered on the importance of early detection. After qualifying for early mammograms because of her family history, she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a Stage 0 breast cancer.

“This is the story I hope for every woman who gets breast cancer,” Eshbach shared.

Her experience ultimately changed the way she viewed her own cancer journey and strengthened her commitment to encouraging others to prioritize screening and early detection.

“That is why early detection matters so much,” Eshbach said.

Eshbach has turned her personal experience into advocacy through her leadership with DeKalb County Pink Out, a local nonprofit dedicated to breast cancer awareness and helping individuals in DeKalb County who are facing a breast cancer diagnosis.

Her participation in the Tribute Dinner highlighted the powerful connection between survivorship, early detection and giving back to the community.

“Melissa’s story represents exactly why DeKalb County Pink Out continues to work so hard to educate our community and support our neighbors,” DeKalb County Pink Out said. “Behind every diagnosis is a person, a family and a story. We want every person facing breast cancer in DeKalb County to know they are not alone.”

DeKalb County Pink Out encourages women to talk with their healthcare providers about appropriate breast cancer screening and to schedule recommended mammograms.
