☀️ It’s HOT outside — and staying hydrated can be especially challenging for people living with dementia.

A person living with dementia may not recognize that they’re thirsty, may forget to drink, or may only take a few sips before feeling like they’ve had enough. That means we may need to get a little creative! 💧

From popsicles and fresh fruit to flavored water, diluted juice, soups, and small sips offered throughout the day, there are plenty of ways to make hydration a little easier — and more enjoyable.

The key? Offer fluids and hydrating foods frequently throughout the day rather than relying on someone to tell you they’re thirsty.

When so much of your time is spent caring for someone else, caring for yourself can easily move to the bottom of the list.

But wellness doesn’t have to mean a whole day off or a major change in your routine. It can start small — stepping outside for a few minutes, enjoying a quiet cup of coffee, talking with a friend, asking for help, or making time for something that restores you.

We had SO much fun at our Annual Luau today! From tropical fun and plenty of smiles to an incredible luau dancer who brought the island spirit right to us, it was an afternoon filled with laughter, music, movement, and wonderful moments together. 🌺

💃And a HUGE shoutout to our incredible Life Enrichment Director, Valynda! 💙 Valynda pours her heart and soul into creating these amazing events and experiences for our residents and their families. Her creativity, dedication, and love for the people we serve can be seen in every detail—and today was no exception!

For 33 years, James L. West has been dedicated to serving people living with dementia and the families who love and care for them. And a milestone like this deserves a celebration!

We recently gathered our incredible team for an anniversary party filled with lots of laughs, great company, delicious food, and plenty of fun. 💙

While so much has grown and changed over the past 33 years, one thing has remained constant: the people behind our mission. We are incredibly grateful for every employee, past and present, who has helped make James L. West what it is today.
