If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. - John 13:14

Today is the start of National Volunteer Month, a very special month to all of us at Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County. Today's Monday motivation verse reflects the faithful hearts of all our incredible volunteers. Though they may not physically be washing feet, the time they sacrifice, the service they offer and the joy they spread is a physical representation of the love and service Christ Himself modeled during his 33 years on our earth. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for each volunteer who has chosen UGM-TC as their place to give back to the community. Happy National Volunteer Month! 💙

Yesterday, we held our annual Easter egg hunt for the UGM-TC resident and Vineyard tenant children! There’s no way to describe the burst of overwhelming joy and excitement we witnessed as the kids poured out of the Cox building into our courtyard filled with over 1,300 eggs. 🐣

For the past six years, Girl Scout Troop 2700 has put on this event for the UGM-TC kids. This was their final year before graduation, and this year they joined forces with Girl Scout Troop 2775, who will be taking over this project in the years to come. We are so grateful for their help and so proud of the Troop 2700 girls who have helped make an impact year after year.

Did you know you can sponsor an Easter dinner table for eight people at UGM-TC for only $17.84?
The Mission is the closet thing to family for many of our residents. Here, they find a warm welcome, respect, and friendship with God. It is a big job to feed so many men, women, and children each night, but we have a big God and an amazing community who makes it all possible. If you would like to make a special Easter dinner donation, please visit https://bit.ly/3kjajlU. Thank you so much for making this an Easter to remember. ✝

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. - Ephesians 4:32

As the hands and feet of Jesus, it is our honor to show kindness and forgiveness to the people we encounter. It is one of the easiest and most immediate ways we can make a difference and shine His light in the world. This week, we challenge you to go out of your way to show kindness to someone or to make the decision to give someone the gift of forgiveness. Not only will it make a difference in their life, but it will also make a difference in yours! Have a blessed week.

Gwendalyn’s new life began with a dream that her life would change, a message from God to leave her home in Houston and go north. She loved God, but she was afraid of uprooting all that was familiar and comfortable. Eventually, she had no choice but to obey.

Read the amazing story of how God led Gwendalyn to UGM-TC and completely changed her life in our latest blog. https://www.ugm-tc.org/news/750-renewal-story-gwendalyn/

Meet our new CEO, Dr. Charles M. Wolford, II! Dr. Wolford, a Dallas/Fort Worth native, joins the Mission with 33 years of experience in ministry and working with youth, adults, and families experiencing homelessness.

As he begins his new role, he expresses his appreciation for UGM-TC’s 136-year history of service in North Texas. He describes the Mission as “strong and healthy” and is excited to be part of the team. Relationships are very important to Charles. “The Word of God tells us to abide with one another,” he says. “I want to get to know and spend time with the people here and hear their journeys, their successes, what God has been doing for them. We all have a story to tell, and sometimes those stories are shared sitting in the lobby or at a meal, even walking across the street with someone. I look forward to that and I treasure that.”

Don Shisler, who has served as President and CEO since 1995, will be working alongside Charles in the role of CEO Emeritus for the next two years, where he will focus on donor relations, expanding programs, and continuing with building and construction projects. “After much prayer and discernment, we have selected a new CEO. Dr. Wolford will lead UGM-TC through many more years of transforming the lives of hurting men, women, and children,” Don says. “I believe this new beginning will be a blessing for the Mission and everyone involved. I’m excited about my new role and am confident we can count on the community’s continued partnership and support in the months and years to come.”

Don looks forward to introducing Charles to the Tarrant County community while continuing to build upon the Mission’s strong legacy. “As Fort Worth gets the chance to meet Dr. Wolford, I’m sure everyone will agree God chose him to lead UGM-TC forward.”

Last week, we had our very first volunteer group at the Community Outreach Center! Students from Bethesda Christian School of Fort Worth helped us sort through donations while others served lunch in the kitchen. It’s so exciting to see the community at work in our new warehouse, knowing this is only the beginning!

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” – Revelation 21:5

It seems the world is changing faster than ever these days. There is no denying it is human nature to feel discomfort during times of change, but change is something our Savior uses to help us grow! Without change, we become stagnate. Without challenges, we lose our strength. Without difficulties, we stop relying on our Father for provision - for our daily bread. If you are struggling in the discomfort of our changing world, remember God declared He is making EVERYTHING new, and we can trust him as He leads us through it. Please also feel free to reach out to our prayer team at [email protected] if you would like some extra prayer for strength and endurance. Have a wonderful and God-filled week!
